I told my principal yesterday that I am expecting and she was receptive and positive! Of course, she asked me if I had someone to care for the baby once he/she is born, and whether I was planning to return, and I responded positively to both questions though, honestly, my decision/plan is still up in the air. She also said that the assistant principal is pregnant, too, and there are three women due in March! I heard that the assistant principal was shocked that the word had spread. I decided not to mention anything to her because I understand, being pregnant myself, that it's rather private. That said, my principal made it slightly more public when she called in the secretary to discuss maternity leave (6 weeks paid and optional 12 weeks unpaid of leave of absence), but she forgot to close the door. The parent coordinator must have heard, and, sure enough, today I had one person ask me! Ok, so I am showing considering I'm a thin person with a flat tummy, but still! I am happy I waited until I was ready for all to know. I am not insinuating that the principal or parent coordinator spread any news, but who knows! Anyway, I'm super excited and happy! I've even been watching childbirth videos on YouTube with happiness and longing and tears in my eyes!
Today, I felt ill. I ate lunch and immediately had major stomach cramps (not uterus contractions or anything, an actual stomache). I felt weak, and couldn't leave my desk. Luckily, my fellow co-worker (she pulls out and pushes in with my class) helped me. She taught my kids the last period and dismissed them as well as my afterschool group. I am so happy to have her! The rest served me well. I wanted to cancel tutoring, but she cancelled on me! Go figure! So, even though I couldn't catch a cab home and had to take the bus and then the train with such discomfort in my stomach and feeling so fatigued, I'm happy that I had a teacher to help me in the afternoon, and that tutoring was cancelled!
I've been having mild cramps for the past two hours or so, and it finally went away once I had a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios. While I was experiencing the discomforting, but mild, cramps, I checked the baby with my rented fetal doppler and counted the heartbeat; it's about 144bpm! :o)
