| 07-4-2008 - She has to go .... |
My mood while writing this blog: sad |
I would be lying if I said that I wasn't a little bit happy about this. My cat has to leave our home after spending a little over two years with us. I have to return her to her original owner: a woman that I used to babysit for. When she handed her over to us, she made us promise we would give her back if we felt that our home was no longer the right place for her. It's the not the place for her anymore. We don't pay her as much attention anymore because our dog sucks up our time (they require more attention than cats, anyway).
Also, we have shut her out of our bedroom, a place she once had 24/7 access to. We did this for fear of toxoplasmosis, present in cat litter. It can also be present on them if they aren't clean. So, cat + possibility of toxoplasmosis = wariness. That said, it really has gotten her down because she can't stand being locked out of our room. She meows uncontrollably, some nights, because she wants to have her possible-toxoplasmosis ass all over me on the bed.
Plus, she's quite the acrobat. I don't want her climbing into all kinds of things once the baby is here! Well, that's not all. She harasses our dog. Now, granted, our dog is super friendly and curious and walks up to her constantly, which she doesn't like. Sometimes, he runs up to her, but immediately turns his butt to her face because he thinks she's a dog and can get to know him this way (we have a chihuahua, so they're essentially the same height/weight).
Anyway, she has resulted to injuring him! He had a blood-crusted ear last week and my husband put two-and-two together and realized it had been her and, suddenly, that whine and yelp that our dog had made earlier that day make sense to him.
Then, we found pee on our couch! I swear it was pee! I can't confirm, but we couldn't think of anything else that it could have been! Cats never pee outside their litter box unless there's some underlying issue, perhaps including stress, which she is undeniably experiencing with the bedroom-lockout and a curious chihuahua. We're lucky we have a microfiber couch, and I scrubbed that shit with all kinds of antibacterial / heavy duty stuff. For those wondering what the hell microfiber has to do with anything: Fabrics made with microfibers can repel liquids making them easier to maintain clean and sanitized if you know how to care for them / clean them when a liquidy mess does occur.
Well, the end of this is: I contacted the original owner and she's going to take her back ...gladly, she said. My cat, my precious, once-docile, gentle, friendly, purring cat is leaving. It's better for her health, anyway ... she's a senior citizen now and our curious puppy isn't exactly compatible with old, wise cats.
