My mood while writing this blog: upset |
Check out my blog for the following (and other) posts about stuff that has been bugging me. Also, please excuse the "french." I am quite angry and need advice.

It's cold in the middle of the night because we don't have heat then.
We had a leak in the spring of 2008 that damaged our microwave and sent me to the laundromat to wash a closet full of wet clothing; the leak also water-damaged many books, scrapbooks, and old writing.
There are two holes in my bathroom that need to be fixed.
We need a window guard put up in our bedroom.
Our stove seems to be defective because it makes our Carbon Monoxide alarm go off; I've called the Fire department three times already. They have suggested that we cook with the windows open, that we tell the landlord to check it / replace it, and, now, that we leave the windows closed and leave the apartment so that the Carbon Monoxide doesn't escape and they can tell how much is in the apartment.
I wrote the landlord a letter and he sent the super immediately (after visiting personally and being unable to reach me). The super checked the holes, the stove, the windows. He fussed about not being paid for certain days or hours of work. He said they'd send a plasterman. Then, the plasterman canceled. No one has come for the stove. And no one ever came for the window guards even though I called.
Yesterday, I called 911 because the Carbon Monoxide alarm went off again. Today, I called the landlord's office. They must know about me already because the receptionist gave me attitude and told me to speak to the super.
I told her that I had and that he had already checked the stove and everything else, but nothing had been done, and my alarm had gone off yet again. With attitude, she sent me to the landlord's voicemail. I left a message about the situation.
I decided to go to the super's place anyway. His helper responded to my knocking and said that the super was having dinner. (Well, uh, he's still on the clock!) I explained the situation and he went to get the super.
This is where I get mad and want to move the fuck out of the Bronx, the fuck out of NYC.
The super said, with attitude, that I needed to contact the super. He already told the landlord that we need a mechanic to check the stove. I told him that I had called the landlord and they had asked me to contact him, the super. I told him that it's a major concern because I need to cook and can't always open the windows. He said he was wondering why the firemen were in the building and that he mentioned it to the landlord and that the landlord had said, "It's the woman from __ apartment." He also made some comment about how sometimes those alarms are defected.
I've never been so furious. I've never been so confrontational. I've never had such attitude. I said the following (in no specific order):
I can't think merely about myself anymore. If my husband, my daughter, and I die in that apartment it won't be because I didn't do anything about that alarm. I don't care if I have to call 911 every time that the alarm goes off. Those alarms weren't placed in apartments for no reason. I'm tired of people treating me like a ping-pong ... sending me to this person and that person to resolve a serious issue. And, sure, I'd use a microwave, but it was damaged in a leak and I never complained about it! I believe in give and take, tit-for-tat, but I'm definitely giving more than I'm receiving. Sure, I moved into the building without paying an application fee and got an apartment-transfer hassle-free. So, in turn, I don't complain, and I didn't complain about the microwave or even the lack of heat that's apparently included in my damn rent bill each month. But now that I share my worries and concerns with the apartment, all I get back is attitude and carelessness about the damn alarm that's meant to save our lives?!?!
He said he'd call the landlord and see what happened and even asked if I'd be home later. Did he ever come or update me? No.
I'm angry that this is happening on top of my frustrations with the sitter (read previous blog). I hate that people can have such attitudes for no fucking reason. I hate that people are so selfish and won't bother to help others even when it seems like a serious situation, such as a fucking stove that's causing the Carbon Monoxide alarm to go off, merely because they're "off the clock" or work "too hard" for such little compensation. I don't know if it's NYC, but I haven't experienced this lack of human touch, this lack of compassion and understanding, and this much attitude anywhere else. And, don't forget the music that blasts from downstairs as though we were at a bar, and don't forget the smell of weed that enters our bedroom from all angles (apartments on both sides and below us). And, yes, the sitter that plays loud music while she has infants and toddlers in her care, leaves the TV on longer than it should be, and goes out for a haircut during work hours while the kids stay with a backup sitter.
I'm through with the motherfucking Bronx. Never in my life. Never in my life! I'm a chill person, hate fights, hate arguments, hate attitude, hate confrontation, hate complaining, hate having bad vibes, energy and stuff like that. But, come on! When someone tells me that my fucking alarm may be defective, that tells me that the person doesn't care about me as a human being ... a human being concerned for the other human beings in her care and concerned for her own life ans safety and health. I'm sure ... certain .. 100% positive that others are dealing with worse, especially in this overcrowded, nasty city .... but if I don't have to put up with it, then why do so? There are many other towns and cities and places with friendly people and compassionate folks that AT LEAST have enough courtesy and professionalism to not give attitude and try their BEST!
I am so disgusted and stressed and angry and frustrated and THROUGH!
I wanna' be a stay-at-home mom on some motherfucking isolated sunflower, fruit farm.
