| 09-6-2010 - Missed my boys! | My mood while writing this blog:Glad to be home |
Following the birth of my baby boy i was struggling at home i was having constant headaches and was spending alot of time in bed as they were so agonising.
I was hardley spending any time with my new baby and Daddy was having to do it all, he didn't mind but i felt like a useless Mummy.
I was eventually made to go to the hospital by my partner after pressure from other family members that could see that i was not well.
At hospital i discovered the cause of the headaches were a result of the complications that occured during my Epidural.
I had something called a spinal tab. When they attempted to place the epidural the aneathatist had punctured in the wrong place in my spine which had caused a leak. This then adjusts the pressure that is in my spine resulting in the headaches. The solution would be to do a procedure called a blood patch, this is where they take blood and put it into my spine to fill the gap. The problem is that they had such a difficult time with the Epidural that this procedure would be just as complicated and could make things worse if they couldnt get the needle into the right area!
After seeing many Aneathatists and Obstetricians they decided that they would only performe the blood patch as a last resort. It had been a week since the Epidural and i had managed so far. They said that the problem was something that could heal itself given time.
They put me on a drip to keep me hydrated and replace fluids in my body. I was given regular strong painkillers to cope with the headaches.
I was in hospital for 4 days hooked up to the drips. The headaches were easing but had not gone completely.
They decided that i could come home with painkillers and the advise to drink plenty and stay hydrated.
If it worsened i have to go back in!
I came home yesterday and so far so good, i am having headaches but they are nothing compared to before, the painkillers are helping and i am able to be at home with my beautiful son and wonderful boyfriend!
Fingers crossed that it all goes away and i do not have to go back to hospital! xxx
