| 22-9-2009 - really mad with mwife!! |
My mood while writing this blog: Ok |
so from my other blogs u may know i'd got myself worried about the size of baby with him being small etc, so anyway in my notes i saw mwife write 33 weeks - this was a weeks ago when i was 34+2 so i felt ok he is fine, i also noticed that she has written a term which the notes show me means he is head down, ok i knew this too, and she has written 2/5 ...what the hell does this mean !! in the uk we dont get internal exams... suppose should b greatful for BUT (an i aint being it in a mean way to people) but i keep reading people who are at same stage as me n have posted that they are dialted to 1 an things like that its driving me mad that i dont kno if i am so cross !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
grrr - needed to vent

Tuesday, 22 Sep Sweetie...I am 35 weeks and have not yet had an exam. I have NO idea if I've started to dilate either AND I'm measuring 10 days further...so the baby is measuring over 36 weeks and still the doctor hasn't checked me. Don't get mad. expecting-2b-patient (Cheryl) -
Tuesday, 22 Sep Yes, like the girls have said it is where the baby's head is in your pelvis. It goes on a stage of 2,1,0,-1,-2 (which are five stages so that's where that 5 comes in). Think of 0 as being in the center of your pelvis. So if you are at a 2 (2/5) your baby's head has just reached the tip of your pelvis. A -2 would mean that the head is nearly out of your pelvis bones... get it?? I don't really know how they can tell this though... Dizzyblond1979 -

Tuesday, 22 Sep Fiona , I know how frustrating it is but calm down. I don't know if your midwife gave you NHS pregnancy book but in that book on page 61 it explains all the meanings of the notes. I am writing down all it says about relation to brim.At the end of pregnancy your baby's head(or bottom, or feet if it's in breech position) will start to move into you pelvis. Doctors and midviwes 'divide' the baby's head into 'fifths' and describe how far it has moved down into pelvis by judging how many 'fifths' of the head they can feel above the brim(the bone at the front)They may say that the had is 'engaged'- this is when 2/5 or less of the baby's head can be ' felt' (palpated) above the brim. This may not happen until you are in labour. If all the baby's head can be felt above the brim, this is described as 'free' or 5/5 'palpable'.So as far as I understand your baby's head looks like nearly engaged. Hopefully you feel better now.Good luck
