| 16-1-2009 - SHE'S HERE!!!!! | My mood while writing this blog:completely wonderful |
So we are proud parents of a new baby girl!! Wow....I can't believe it. This journey of motherhood has started off pretty amazing with TONS of different emotions....
Heres the story....On Thursday I was having contractions all day, but nothing too serious. Finally, when it was time to go to the hospital to get it checked out, my contractions were already about 5 minutes apart. wow talk about uncomfortable. So on our way to the hospital we get pulled over by a cop...yea just my luck, can you believe that?! So daddy was like "um I'm driving her to the hospital, she's in labor." It was kinda funny because that just sounds like a crazy excuse to get out of a ticket!! lol but anyhow the cop ended up giving us a ticket anyway.... So we get to the hospital and they gave me some awful shot to stop the contractions and it made me feel like crap! So I was expecting to just be checked out and sent home because the medication seemed like it was working. So when the doc came in to check me, he said there was a little foot trying to come out and I was already dialated a few (she was breech the whole time) So he said "ok lets get this show on the road and get you ready for a C-section".....what the heck!!! we were like now? right now? So sure enough I was prepped within minutes and it went so fast from there....

Our baby was born on Friday January 9th at 2:55 am. She was premature as I was only 35 weeks and 3 days when she came. She weighed 5 pounds 15 ounces and was 18 and 3/4 (I think the paperwork actually says 19 inches) long.
She did well for the first about 6 hours. Then she started having typical premie problems like a little trouble regulating her temperature and oxygen, so they took her to the NICU and got some stuff started for her. Then they find out she is fighting hard some infection, they don't know what it exactly but they started her on anti-biotics right away. They even tested for meningitis with a lumbar puncture (spinal tap)...ouch my poor baby! Then a couple days later she had to be put under the "lights" for elevated bilirubens (causes jaundice). So she had a hard time eating for a little bit with all this going on with her. But with all the prayers from everyone and the great doctors and staff in the NICU, she has been able to put up a good fight and so now she is just continuing on the antibiotics and everything else is normal. She is eating good and is REALLY loud when she is hungry!! lol..she will definately let you know when its time to eat - we are not going to miss any night time feedings with that scream!!
So I was an emotional rollercoaster this past 6 days! I was sooo worried about the baby because of the issues she was having. It was driving me nuts, but I was also filled with soooo much love....it is indescribable!!! I know all the other parents will understand what I'm talking about...that love you have for your new little babies. She is all I can think about, I just stare at her and my heart is so full of love and warmth.
I am so proud of her for being so strong with the little mountains she had to overcome in her first days here....I think she will be a strong little girl!! God is good.

I can't wait to bring her home!! If all goes as planned, we will be bringing her home on Friday (tomorrow)!! YAY! So the emotions are going to continue.....of course the love I have for her, the worry that her health stays good, and now we are adding the worry/anxiety of questioning how well I'm going to do with her and if I'm doing everything right....etc. etc. all the new first baby worries!! ugh!! Well I'm guessing our "natural" motherly instincts will kick in with full force!! lol
Anyway, that's our story up until this point. I am sooo thankful for the people in my life that have been there to support me throughout this journey. Starting off with the difficult pregnancy and continuing till now (and beyond I'm sure). My baby has a dad that was extremely supportive of me and was there for me this whole time. She also has a wonderful family - grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and wonderful godmother. I also have some friends that have been a wonderful blessing as well.
All of these special people were an tremendous help during this time and I could not thank them enough!!!
I also thank you ladies on this site that have been soooo helpful and supportive through this whole journey!! You ladies are some amazingly strong women. You are all in my prayers and thoughts as you continue on your journeys...whether that may be TTC, pregnancy, high risk pregnancies, delivery, premie babies (NICU babies), raising babies or healing from loss. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you......
