| 15-11-2008 - Our first ER trip | My mood while writing this blog:okay |
Well we had our first trip to the ER on Wednesday night. Joey woke up at daycare around 12:45 with a 101.3 temp. I gave him some tylenol with hopes that by the time we got home after 5:00 he would be back to his good old self. Boy, was I wrong! We got home and he was fussy so I decided to feed him some yummy chicken noodle dinner. That ended up a disaster as he was crying and fussing the whole way through. Up to the bath we went, were beforehand I checked his temp again. It was up to 102.7, so I gave him that lukewarm tubby they tell you to give and he was shivering the whole time and crying. I started to get sad just looking at him, and decided to call his pedi. He has been sick since starting daycare on 8.25. He's had a runny nose and has been sneezing a lot with itchy eyes and nose. Recently, he started a really crappy cough that he would gag on. So after I told his pedi that, she said bring him the ER room so they can do chest xrays and make sure it's not pneumiona (I can't spell that one!). We were there for 3 hours, were Joey was the life of the ER. (o: They wanted to get a urine sample from him, so they put a plastic sticky bag on his boy parts. He didn't pee in it the whole 3 hours we were there. They had mentioned putting a catheter (can't spell that either) in him but mom wasn't having that. They also wanted to do blood work. After the doctor listened to everything and took the chest xray he decided against all of that and said it was just a virus and to alternate between tylenol and iburpofin.
When we woke up in the morning, Joey had a fever of 104.5! We called his pedi again and said we wanted to be seen again. My hubby wanted to bring him back to the ER but I refused because I wanted an actual pedi to look at him who knew more about kids. We went in and his temp was at 103. After she checked him out, she saw he had fluid in his ears. She said that it could have happened overnight, and I let her know that the doctor at the ER said "I can't see in his ears, they are too small!" and she just chuckled. I told her I was scowling at him lol. I knew he just need amoxicillin to get rid of whatever has been keeping him this sick for so long. Thank God she prescribed him some!
It has been well 73 hours since his first fever and he finally woke up this morning fever-free! He has been sleeping a lot, but his teeth are KILLING him. Instead of the front bottom two breaking through, it is right k-9 coming through. Ahhh, I feel so bad for him but am happy to know that it is finally making it's way through. That part of his gum is very swollen and red and he won't let me near it today. He has been screaming crying with his fingers right at that area in his mouth.
I just wish he would feel better, but for the most part he is in good spirits! Besides today with his teeth, which as been the worst day yet; he has been great.
I am going to write another blog soon when he goes in for his 6 month appt, which is crazy!! I can't believe how big he is getting! He is 15 lbs and of course they didn't measure him. He is doing GREAT at sitting up. He is so silly I just love him!! We are going for his first pro pics FINALLY tomorrow, I just hope his little teeth cooperate (o:
