| 30-9-2009 - 20 weeks - halfway! | My mood while writing this blog:Fine |
Well here we are, 20 weeks along. It's really speeding up now, and February will be here too soon I think. All is good with baby just now. I visited the midwife yesterday and heard baby's heartbeat again. She said my uterus is where it should be, and had a wee feel about.
My iron results from 4 weeks ago were fine she said, but I don't know if that really means anything or not. Perhaps your iron can get low quickly in pregnancy? But at least if I am short on iron, I've caught it on time. Then she asked me if I was eating a lot of rubbish! Where do they get off? She knows nothing about me, cause she has only met me once, and never asked me anything about ME. I politely but firmly told her I don't eat rubbish, I eat very healthy (other than the sticky toffee pudding moment) and am vegetarian which is more than likely why my iron would be low, if indeed it is. I informed her that I know fine well what to eat to improve my iron, and do so on a daily basis. I am also backing that up with an iron tablet. She made me mad.
She then took my blood pressure, said it was fine, just a bit up on last time around. Hmmm, I wonder why?
I am trying to get through this pregnancy with virtually no information, other than a 'wonderful' book I was provided with! I get to see someone every 4 to 5 weeks, and when I do see them they wind me up. The system in Glasgow needs a kick up the backside.
I asked her about my blood results for Spina bifida and Downs. She expressed surprise that I hadn't received a letter in the post, and asked when I had the test done. When I told her 1st September she was very surprised. She offered to call the hospital and ask them what was happening. They advised her that the results had been available since 3rd September, 2 days after I gave the blood. I hadn't received my letter due to an error. So long story short, my risk is low. I was really only concerned around Spina Bifida, not so much Downs, but it is a relief all round to hear our chances are low. More anxiety around something that should have been cleared up weeks ago.
On a more positive note, my sister in law, who is having the twins had her 20 week scan yesterday. And she found out she is having one of each (90% sure). She is delighted. She wanted a girl and my brother was keen on a boy so they are both happy. All is well with her pregnancy too, both babies are virtually the same size, which is good for twins I believe.
So let the buying begin I think. Lots of white though, cause I think we have all but decided not to ask for the sex of our baby if we do have a 4D scan, but I've even gone off the idea of that now. Time to relax and enjoy the second half of this pregnancy. No more anxious feelings, or doom and gloom. Just lots of indigestion medicine and early nights. Oh and roll on18th December when I finish up work!!!
Hope everyone else is okay, and keeping healthy.
