My mood while writing this blog: happy |
My neighbor across the street, who informed me that her next door neighbor (whom I don't even know) told her I was pregnant came over to sit with me on my porch. The first time in the 5 years she has ever lived here. Normally, I go over to her house and talk with her while she is out with her 2 boys. She and her husband both came over to compliment me on our new fence (a desperately needed full white fence around our entire yard. We'd lost two dogs because the gates were broken and they had gotten out and hit by cars a few years back, the wood was rotten and gaps under and between many of the post, and one of my next door neighbors' trees' roots had destroyed one section to a point where you could almost walk through the opening like it was a door. We have a pool, so I'd hated the fact that they could see into our yard for years due to its bad condition in addition to the security for our pets) Everyone else has wood fences on our block and we are the first to have a full white fence around the entire perimeter. (Not to brag, but maybe to explain why she made her comment) They have a partial white fence in the front where the gates are only and the sides and back are wood, as she explained to me. I don't ever ask these people their business, but for some reason they felt the need to explain why she didn't get a full white fence. Then afterwards the wife asks where is my husband (by name) and I said at work and would be home soon. She then asked after a few minutes pause, "what was I gonna do about work. Her husband gave her a look of embarrassment. I replied, "I don't know, I'm worrying about one thing at a time." As I said that her husband walked off back across the street in embarrassment that she had the heart to pry. I could see it on his face. Hell, it was on my face. What I wanted to say was, "Why are you writing a book?", or "I think that is pretty nosy of you, I don't ask you personal stuff like that." Next time I will. Its just not in my nature to be so brash, but since people feel the need to be so blatant with their prying I think I'm gonna have to. Man these folks are all up in my biz-ness. Then my next door neighbor comes over and explains why they don't have a white fence, when nobody asked her either. She always mentions her horses, barn or shore house anytime we get something new done to our house (roofing, windows, landscaping, etc.) and I don't ask this woman anything about what goes on in her life. Its clearly a sign of insecurity to feel the need to explain yourself to someone else especially when they don't even ask you. I don't belive in trying to keep up with the Jones' I'm only with meeting the needs of my home when they arise and the needs of my family. Why can't these people just leave me alone?

Monday, 18 May Yes Aiona , that some distance between neighbours might be a good idea for the sake of privacy. Aiona -
Sunday, 17 May I like our privacy too, and our yard has a very good fence. You know what they say about "good fences" and "good neighbors"! :) MommyAgain2009 -
Tuesday, 12 May This is so funny to me. We've lived in our house for 2 years this past February. My hubby is on the landscaping kick for 2009. He has put up a privacy fence, had a retaining wall built about four bricks high around from the side of the house to the front and up the walk way. He's had the swirly trees, bonzai trees and some regular bushes planted in front. With rose bushes on the side of the garage. I have been laid off since May 1st so I am here during the day. The guy that is doing the work has been over her for about a week & a 1/2. So many of the neighbors have come into our yard striking conversations and introducing themselves to the worker. I can hear from my bedroom window. They've even asked him if he lives here now. Mind you we've been here since February 2007 and not one of them has ever welcomed us to the neighborhood. We were asked if we were renting one time and the first year we were here, my mom was up from Mississippi and we were out in the yard pulling weeds and the one neighbor total dismissed me as being the possible homeowner and asked my mom how did she like living in the house. When she told the lady it was my house and she was just visiting she was like...ohhh. Maybe I didn't look my age or something. (I was 34 at the time) My husband is 6 years younger than me and we could have appeared to be a young renting couple...lol but these were examples on how nosey and prying neighbors can be. kionna1981 -
Tuesday, 12 May I have notice that too. People would talk to you alot when you are pregnant. They are just being nosy. I guess u are the talk of the block now. Also I think they are hating that you have that fence up maybe because it looks better than theirs. And it was none of her business if you are working or not. I ain't working right now so I know how you feel on that part, but nobody asked me was I was working or not. I bet that woman's husband got on her when they were back in their own place. Maybe when u finally have the baby, things will turn back to normal.
