My mood while writing this blog: concerned |
Well we went to the Dr may 6th b/c I noticed that JoAnn had thrush. I couldnt believe that she got it b/c i try so hard to keep her bottles sterilized. He kind of laughs at me and says can you sterilize air. Im like huh? Apparently thats how she got the thrush b/c she is eating so much and it leaves moisture in her mouth. Well that was a week ago and her mouth looks so good. I've been giving her medicine and there is only a little bit left in her mouth now. Well I noticed that every time we lay her down flat she gets fussy so we usually keep her propped up and then she's happy. Last night my hubby feeds her and lays her down (propped up of course) and she started choking. He picked her up and then she was fine. He laid her back down and she started choking and picked her up and she was fine. This went on for about 5 minutes. Im thinking wait a minute, something isn't right. So this morning she coughed about 5 to 6 times. Im thinking what's wrong with her, why is she coughing. could she be sick. When i fed her, she started to act like the milk was choking her a little but she was so hungry she just kept trying to eat anyways. I could hear wheezing in her chest so I immediately made a doctor's appt b/c i was afraid she was getting sick. Well last time she got weighed (just a week ago) she weighed 8.6 and week before that which was day after she was born she was weighing 7.4. She got weighed today and that little piggy was weighing 9.4. She's gained a total of exactly 2 lbs in the last 3 weeks. Apparently she has to keep eating b/c her milk isn't getting her full. She's now eating 4 oz's every 2 hours. Well after the dr did a check over her, he's come to the conclusion she has reflux. just great. i tell him she doesnt spit up EVER so how could she have reflux. Well i guess not all babies that have reflux actually spit up with it. He tells me that the milk isn't sitting well in her belly. That she is eating too much, too quick and too fast. Apparently she is eating so often b/c the milk isnt filling her up. Before her tummy has time to empty out that she is already ready to eat again. so his suggestion (which my mother is throwing a fit over) is to give her 1 tablespoon of rice cereal in her bottle at every feeding. (not as part of her diet but just to thicken it up) this way it will settle in her tummy better and maybe she will be able to get full and not have such a demand to eat all the time. He has decided to go this route instead of giving her the meds (which i rather her not have to take) for the simple fact she is NOT a fussy baby. She only cries when its time to eat and never again except when she is hungry. If this doesnt work then we will have to go to the meds. So after she eats, he wants her to be held up for 1 hr after eating before she lays back down. which is just terrific so that means 1 hr of being hands free unless i sit her in her car seat or boppy. Since she is eating every 2 hrs, she will only lay down for 1 hr at a time. so funny and its not like she isnt getting spoiled enough. Im so glad to know that everything is doing great and obviously her thrush and reflux is not bothering her eating time, lol. So she goes for her 1 mt check up tuesday and im just curisous to see what she will be weighing by then since she will now have cereal in her bottle. im so scared its just going to fatten her up more and I do not want to have an obese child. so we will take it day by day.

They said the reason they eat so much is because it soothe the burning in the belly and esphagus. I have dealt a lot with reflux and and the meds. If you have any questions please ask. supaflychick1982 -
Thursday, 14 May Is she only drinking milk and do you sometimes substitute for water? I know most dr's will tell you that everything they need is in the milk but water can fill you up when you may not need food at the moment. Just a suggestion. She sounds like a great eater otherwise, nothing will slow her down lol.
