16-5-2008 - Week 7 HappyMy mood while writing this blog:
Happy

May 02nd 2008: went to Holles street for my scan. After an hour or two of waiting around I was finally seen. The doctor on charge was a nice woman named Peta. She performed a transvaginal scan on me and after a long time of looking around and adjusting the settings on the machine (all of which made me very nervous) she found what she was looking for.

The news was mixed. I was carrying twins – but unfortunately one had died. The twin had only died the day before. But the surviving twin had a strong healthy heart beat. Seeing the heart beating away was a great moment for me and for Chris too. I wasn’t too upset about the dead twin as I realise that it is a very common occurrence and I was grateful to still be pregnant at all.

There were however two areas of concern – the doctor was concerned that if my body expelled the dead twin rather than absorbing it that the healthy baby would be expelled along with it. The dead baby being nearer the exit of the uterus was a good sign however and reduced the chances of that occurring. Also, there was an area of bleeding in my uterus, which was of concern to her. With this in mind she booked me in for a second scan on May 23rd to make sure that all is well.

May 23rd is my partners birthday so fingers crossed it will be a good day for him.

It’s a long wait away but in the mean time I have two pictures to content myself with. I also found out my exact estimated due date – it is in fact December 18th (no longer Christmas eve but we will stick with the name Evey if it is a girl). I was 7 weeks and 1 day gone on the day of my scan.
