| 20-5-2009 - recommended book | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
As many of you know, I promote the book Good Night, Sleep Tight by Kim West, and I have recommended other books. Well, I have a new one I recommend to all women, Love and Respect by Emerson Eggerichs.
The execution of the writing isn't so great, but the main idea was conveyed well, and there were even practical tips. So, it's another "self help" book. My MIL gave this to me on Mother's Day, and I was so like, "I don't need a book like this, but I'm going to read it in case she asks me if I have read it." It came at a great time because the steps are moving back in for the summer, and I have been on edge, so I've been pretty sour toward my dh. Pretty sour really doesn't describe what I've been, but anyway. It helped me "get a hold of myself" so to speak, and adjust my attitude before things went downhill. Some of the things mentioned in the book clicked with me.
I'm going to now give away the main ideas. Women need love. Men need respect. Someone recently posted a poll about whether women wanted love or respect, and I, along with the majority of other women who answered the poll, chose respect. So, in that way, I feel like love is a subunit of respect, or perhaps it is the other way around--respect is a subunit of love. I believe that both sexes want respect and love and that each sex's interpretation of those are different. Nevertheless, though I semi-disagree with Eggerichs, the book is practical and still relates to the reader that men and women have different ways of expressing their needs and having their needs met. Again, the name of the book is Love and Respect by Emerson Eggerichs.
I`m game, too. What name suits her?...
