my cousin who is about 7 weeks pregnant just found out her pap came back with pre cancerous cells. also they found a large cyst on her overy. has anyone had these issues before while pregnant? i had Cervical Cancer myself but not while pregnant i am just wondering what is going to come of all this with the baby and all and she is very upset with it being her first she is very scared. Can anyone give any advise on this?

The ovary that released the egg is the sole support for the first 3 months of pregnancy. This generally means a cyst is formed and is quite normal (I have on that is now going away as I approach my 14th week) Pre-cancerous cells - my first pap came back this way, the 2nd completely normal. Never ever worry yourself over our "over testing" society. Positive thinking makes all the difference in the world. I suggest taking an antioxidant if not doing so already (pycnogenol) not harmful at all, or eat foods that have natural antioxidants to build up the immune system.

I wish I had something to contribute. I'm just amazed at the stories from the other 2 comments, I had to stop and say so. I didn't know that could happen. But isn't there some false positive rate on the pap smears? In fact for regular GYN visits, they now say to have the pap just every 3 yrs, and do a blood test every year instead, and they're finding greater reliability. They still do the pap on all pregnancy workups though. If it were me I might ask the doc to back up their findings with the bloodwork (HPV, is it?). That might put the whole thing to rest.

my cousin had cervical cancer and found out when she was pregnant. the dr removed half of her cervix and said she would never have any more kids. Well a yr and a half later she found out she was pregnant again. Well they did the pap and came up cancerous again. they repeated it again after she delevered and it was normal! as far as the cyst i think it is a normal pregnancy thing I have them with all my pregnancies. the dr never said it was a bad thing.
