19-4-2011 - I AM FURIOUS!!!

My mood while writing this blog: Ok

So, my pregnancy was confirmed at my local walk in clinic. The Dr there at the time refused to refer me to an OB; telling me to come back in a few weeks and they would do it (WHICH WAS RIDICULOUS TO BEGIN WITH!). So today I went back to the clinic to get my chest checked out because I have been sick for over 3 weeks now and to FINALLY get my referral to an OB. THE DR REFUSED TO REFER ME BECAUSE he "isn't my regular Dr". Less than a minute before that he told me that my family Dr who has been on a medical leave from that particular clinic for the last year is no longer practicing and will not be returning...SO I HAVE NO DR BUT HE WON'T TREAT ME BECAUSE HE'S NOT MY DR WTF!!!!!

To top it all off I have been shaking all day which is part of why I went and saw and Dr and an even bigger part of why I want my referral and he refused to even check it out saying he "doesn't know pregnany ladies" HELLO, THAT'S WHY I ASKED FOR THE REFERRAL!!!!!!!

I am furious!

This is what you get with government run healthcare. Here in the US, you can call an OB you find in the phone book and make your own appointment!! That is total crap, and I would be pissed. Why can't you go to the oB who cared for you during your first pregnancy?

Im in Ontario but had a similar issue when I was pregnant. I was actually told "you're not a smoker, you're fine". When I told the dr at a walk in I had no family dr. The best was the second dr saying "so I guess you're keeping it?". Anyway I ended up calling the hospital and they told me to go to a specific walkin with a specific dr and ask for a referral for an ob. The dr was great and got me a referal within two weeks and my ob was able to then get my husband, daughter and I a family dr. I hope this helps at the very least the hospital should have a list of family doctors accepting patients who would then refer you to an ob.
