09-1-2009 - 1st appointment

My mood while writing this blog: sick

Well, my 1st appointment was yesterday. It was super-quick - it's crazy to drive 3 hours for an appointment to visit with your doc for 15 minutes!

Basically he just asked how I was doing, re-confirmed the pregnancy with a urine test, & ordered all my preliminary blood work. No pap (yay!), as he did not want to cause bleeding and more stress for me. Also, however, no chance to listen for a heartbeat, as he does not have a u/s in his office. My 1st u/s is scheduled for Jan 24, (at 11wks) with a follow-up appointment Jan 28. Busy, busy!

Good news! Since my upper back has been KILLING me, I asked my doc about massages, even though every source I'd found said NO massages 1st trimester. YAY - doc says 'no problem' & even recommended a massage therapist. My insurance should cover 1 per month, so I'm going to book a massage in tandem with every appointment. What a treat!

Stressed-out news - Due to my earlier difficulties & other work issues, I was told to let my boss know as soon as possible. I told her today (my heart beat pounding) & she went through the roof, gushing, "I love babies!" I think it's going to be more difficult for her to keep the news from the rest of the staff than it will be for me! She even offered to cover my afternoons if I have trouble finding a sub.

Bad news - I've got the mother of all colds, & am waking up feeling like my head has been filled up by an air compressor. My ears are popping constantly, my nose is runny and raw, my chest is beginning to rattle and I'd sell my left kidney to be able to take an Advil Cold & Sinus. Whew! OK, I'm done whining.
