16-5-2009 - Ignorance of people

My mood while writing this blog:
shocked

I have been on leave from work since Feb 13 due to being high risk. I am a teacher in a residental alternative education program. My coworker told me 2 weeks ago that our supervisor made the announcement not to discuss me with the students because a few are asking am I pregnant, because they have heard this from staff memebers. She wanted it hush hush. My coworkers were like whats the big deal, she is grown. Mind you when I told her I was having a boy, another coworker informed me she made the announcement in the main bldging to everyone. So now my coworker wants to give me a baby shower at work next week and the head administrator told her it was ok. The supervisor is upset because she didnt go to her for permission but instead went to her boss, which is what we do when we want something knowing she will say no to be an ass. I can not believe in this day and age she is upset. Her comment I am told to another supervisor is how do you explain to the students who are 16 - 19 that a teacher is pregnant. Considering we get a least 2 pregnant girls every session and many boys with kids already it is not like they dont know where kids come from. I have not said anything to her and considered not going to shower but I will and smile at her in the process. So glad she is leaving the job by the time I return to work in Aug.

Some people like to leave work and work and private matters (such as a pregnancy) at home. Maybe your co-workers could have the baby shower somewhere else like a resturant...I understand where she's coming from and I understand you as well. Give it some thought....good luck!

People are ignorant... I seriously doubt that the knowledge of you. one of their teachers is pregnant is going to have any bad affect on the students.
