09-3-2009 - Started Cereal

Tony started rice cereal last night. The pediatrician encouraged us to wait till 5-6 months, but if we wanted to try now it would probably be fine because he is like 2 weeks from being 5 months. He has a big appetite. While I am away at work he takes 5 oz of expressed breastmilk every 2 hours and the sitter thinks he may want more. So he takes in like 20 oz in the time we are apart. I have to pump at work and at home to keep up with the demand, in addition to breastfeeding him. I am trying to avoid supplementing with formula, and figured cereal would be a good way to do that since he is giving the cues that he may be ready. He seemed to like the cereal but them got very fustrated and started to cry. I decided to stop feeding him and breastfed him for a bit. We then tried giving him the rest of the cereal once his belly was content and he did fine. I just tried feeding again today and he again got frustrated, so I repeated what I did last night and it seemed to work.
