| 13-9-2008 - natural or medicated |
My mood while writing this blog: unsure |
Ok so the question came up... Will i have a natural or medicated birth? How do i know what is right for me, this is my first pregnancy and i am not sure how it all works! Plus i don't want to be sleepy or unaware of what is happening when i give birth and i don't want to harm the baby! But the pain of giving birth to a newborn baby... How do you describe it when everyone is different and you have no idea what the pain is going to be like... Up until now i haven't thought of giving birth but it's just around the corner and now is the time where i should start planning my birth plan...
I just don't know what to do...

Monday, 15 Sep This is my third and I am definately having an epidural again. The pain is too intense for me to bear and I was in labor with my first for 9 hrs AFTER my water broke and my second for about 8 hrs. I did have drugs with the first also, but I do not want that again because the labor and birth was a little foggy. My 2nd I just had an epidural. Of course there are risks with an epidural just as there is with any medical procedure but I think that medicine has become more advanced and things like epidurals are done so frequently that it is pretty safe. I think it is every womans choice how she wants to give birth and noone should be judgemental on whatever way she chooses. Emilie -
Monday, 15 Sep i am planning on water birth no medication, i know that's what right for me, it's my first baby too and i don't know what to expect, i am just gonna go with the flow but for sure i am not having no big needle stuck in my back to numb me, i am gonna ride the pain and do it the old way XX TNMom -
Monday, 15 Sep This is my 4th. I've never been medicated for my births. I decided against epidurals after knowing women (including my sister) who had them and then dealt with severe back and/or leg pain/problems afterwards. I just didn't want to chance it. I came close to getting a shot to take the edge off with my 3rd, but I was so close to delivery that it would have depressed her breathing and she would have to have a shot to reverse the effects as soon as she was born. I'm very pro non-medicated, but I also know there are some situations where that's just not possible. Just stay relaxed, know your options and make those decisions as things happen. You'll do fine! emmaflower987 -
Sunday, 14 Sep Hey, i plan on having a medicated birth... i will be getting an epidural... the good thing about getting a epidural instead of some of the other meds that they offer is that it doesnt make your sleepy, or drowsy.. you are fully awake and alert when you give birth to your baby! You are just numb from the waist down! I talked to my dr. about my med options during birth and he only had one negative thing about epidurals... he said that since you are numb from the waist down sometimes alot of women think they are pushing really really hard BUT in reality they are not pushing hard at all! This is my first pregnancy as well, so i am not speaking from experience but i have friends that have kids.. some did it naturally some did it with medications.. the ones that did it naturally said that toward the end of labor they REALLy wished they has asked for some meds.. the ones that did get an epidural said they were SOOO thankful that they did! Anyways, i agree with the other posts... just go with the flow.. if you think you can do it naturally GO FOR IT.. BUT if you feel that the pain is to intense and you need some relief just remember that all meds dont make your sleepy or drowsy... FOR ME the epidural is gonna be the best road for me to go.. but things may be different for you! Good luck with your decision and with the rest of your pregnancy!!!!!! CLAIR12 -

Sunday, 14 Sep Do what ever you feel is right at the time and don't let anyone tell you what to do. I plan on giving birth naturally but I know the pain meds are there if I need them!! What ever you decide to do I'm sure you did the best for your baby!.
