04-6-2009 - My Birth Story

My mood while writing this blog: Whatever......

It was Tuesday Morning ( May 26). My husband & had just gotten out of bed. Our plans were to get ready and go for a walk at the beach. Before I can even get ready, I was in the closet & I felt a gush of warm water come out. I ran to the bathroom laughing..thinking I had peed on myself. So I changed undies, and still went to the closet to put some clothes on. The same thing happened. When that happened, I thought to myself, "Could it be my water that just broke?" So, I wrote down the times it happened. It kept coming every 5 - 10 to 15 min apart. We decided not to go for the walk anymore. Called my doc at 9am when it all happened and it was 1 o clock in the afternoon and I still had not heard from doc. I was frustrated & worried not knowing what to do. I called relatives who had kids for advise and they just told me to go to the hospital. If they sent me home, at least I knew that I had done my part. Anyhow, I was admitted at the hospital at 2pm that same day.

At the hospital, nurses finally got a hold of my doctor. He instructed them to INDUCE ME because I had no contractions.Doc supposedly told the nurses to give me the option of staying there or going home. Well, I don't know if he was being honest b/c the nurses never told me anything. But, whatever! I stayed and got put on PITOSIN (spell - check?) When i was admitted, I was only 1 cm dilated. It took all the way to 11pm that same night to reach 4cm. By 2am I was 6cm... by 6am on Wednesday May 27th, I was 8 cm.

OOhh..and must I not forget. I was able to be brave w/ no drugs 'til I reached 6cm. Once I got to 6cm, I got nervous and anxious and that completely through me off. I couldn't think straight and wanted to just get off of the bed. I couldn't take the pain anymore and couldn't think so I asked for the EPIDURAL ! Yes ladies. I was thinking I was going to be able to take it like a WOMAN...... w/ no pain killers but I couldn't ! After that, all pain went away and things got better I was able to finally get some sleep. But, right before pushing time which was around 9am, I got taken off of the EPIDURAL.....so I felt a lot of pain & pressure.

Pushing is quite an experience. Oh, and I got cut down there... ( Episiotonomy?) Yes, the baby was too big. She tore me so the doc decided to help me out a bit more. I pushed for an hour & 10 min. Nurses and doc said that I was a big pusher. I don't k now if they were just saying that or if they meant it. Well, the two nurses that were there, were the best I could have had.

At pushing time, My anxiety came back and I was starting to lose it AGAIN..., but husband was there to get me to focus! He kept reminding me about how we were jst min away from meeting our baby girl.....

It's tough giving birth but, I would definately do it again. Its totally worth it. But, I can definately wait on having my 2nd one. I want to enjoy my baby girl first.

Well done! and congratulations, i probably would have gone for the pain relief too but my labour was so quick and im SO very thankful for that. When i was reading the part about your husband saying your only minutes away from meeting your baby girl i felt my eyes prick with tears.. haha i guess its still close to home because i remember my man saying the exact same thing to me only a few weeks ago. Its such an amazing experience, i cant beleive i did it! haha anyway congratulations on your little girl, she is absolutley gorgeous. well done x
