My mood while writing this blog: OK |
So, I had an ultrasound yesterday, at 8 wks, 4 days. I was convinced that there would be no baby, because especially in the past few days I have felt nothing besides food cravings. No sore boobs, no nausea, not even any extreme fatigue. I do feel a fullness in my lower abdomen though, and feel bloated but that's about it. Anyhow, I guess I should consider myself lucky. This pregnancy is as easy, if not easier than it was with Brody. I have a gut feeling we are having another boy. I would be thrilled with another boy and Brody would love a brother to grow up with, I'm sure. Besides, it would be a lot cheaper!
The ultrasound was right on. I knew I calculated my dates correctly, and it was confirmed yesterday. Baby was 1.90 cm crown to rump, had a beating heart and looked just like what I would expect this early with an abdominal ultrasound. She did a really quick one with the portable machine and that was it.
We discussed whether I'm considered high risk or not, being that Brody was born nearly 6 weeks early and had the troubles he had. She said since all of his genetic testing came out normal and that everything else was fine besides my water breaking that they wouldn't necessarily do anything special. She did say that she will order a 60 minute level 2 ultrasound to get a closer look to see if there are any deformities and then will start doing cultures in the 2nd trimester to check for any vaginal infections which can cause PROM. I told her I didn't think the cultures were necessary because I know my water broke early due to Brody's jejunal atresia and the severe polyhydramnios I had. She tends to agree with me on this, but you can't be too careful. She did bring up my age. UGH...she offered amnio or CVS but Ben and I said no to both of them. We're going to get the nuchal translucency ultrasound combined with the bloodwork on May 14th and we feel that, combined with the level 2 ultrasound will be sufficient. Besides, there is nothing we would do differently anyhow.
I'm looking forward to the May 14th ultrasound because that is the ultrasound that I found out Brody was a boy! We will hopefully have as skilled of a tech as we had with him and will find out in a month! Here's hoping! Other than that, she doesn't need to see me back for 6 weeks. I will be close to 15 weeks at that point so we will be able to hear the heartbeat with the doppler, which will probably be about the only excitement at that appt. It doesn't start getting exciting until the end! Now we just sit back and let baby grow!
