My mood while writing this blog: Ok |
Well, I mentioned in an earlier blog that Caleb was having problems with regular formula, spitting up, gas, fussiness etc...so we switched him to soy a few weeks ago. He was doing much better with it, just spitting up once in a while. Well now for the past few days he has been projectile spitting up...it comes out of his nose, he is choking on it, it's terrible. It's during every feeding, after every feeding and in between. I have to keep a bib on him all day and it still gets all over his clothes and blankets! I asked his doc about him maybe having reflux at his 2 month appointment, but she said that spit up is normal...(NOT MY REGULAR PEDIATRICIAN)....So whatever. I called into the doctors office today at 3:55....and welp, they must close at 4 because the answering machine picked up. I guess I'll call back in the morning, but what do you ladies think?? Ava had colic, but I resolved that at 3 weeks with her...this is nothing like that, so I'm confused! Help :/

Monday, 26 Oct Hey Jenna, My first son was like this too. The vomiting, coming out his nose, and he was also showing traces of blood in his stool and it was really mucousy, he was also very irritable. He was put on Nutramigen formula. Its partially pre digested and allergy sensitive. He did fairly well on this but still had traces of blood. SO he was switched to Neocate (not because my doctor put him on it, because i spoke to a nutritionist) and he stopped everything. He was a whole new baby! I would suggest trying Nutramigen first as its available on the grocery shelf. The doctor told me he thought my son had collitis (a mild form of baby collitis that would disappear) and it did! His tummy was just having a hard time digesting the milk protein and he would throw it up. Could this be similar with your baby? MariaV -
Monday, 26 Oct My oldest had the same exact thing and the docs said the same exact thing... VERY frustrating. I went against what all the doctors said and put a little bit of rice cereal in his bottles. WOW!!!! What a difference, he still spit up here and there but none of that excorcist stuff. If that is too scary for you (and it is nerve racking) try putting Caleb in his car seat or swing after feeding for at leat a half an hour. Having him sit up may just let gravity run it's course and help the formula stay down. johnsbabymama -
Monday, 26 Oct i know you might not like my answer, as many people don't, BUT it does work for a lot of babies. Add a little rice to the bottle, it will help keep the formula down. It's always worth a shot, and it worked for my baby, and many other people i know that had this problem. It's not going to hurt baby, so i would just give it a try. Add maybe 1-2 formula scoops of rice in with every 4-6 oz good luck, i really hope this works, or you give it a shot. Like i said it's not going to hurt baby any. RainbowRach -

Saturday, 24 Oct I'm no expert, obviously, but I have a friend who's baby was projectile spitting up like that too, and her pediatrician said it was acid reflux. I can't remember what she did for it, I do know that she used a wedge like pillow to have him sitting up a bit at bedtime and when he was lying down. Love*Made*Us -
