07-6-2009 - I\'m a big baby EmbarrassedMy mood while writing this blog:
Embarrassed

Friday night I went to L&D because I was somewhat convinced I was having constant contractions, and I had an unbelievable pain on my left side. I'd been having pain all day, but it just kept getting worse and worse. My nap and sitting in the recliner didn't even help. It got to the point where my legs were buckling and it took my breath away.

I started bawling like a baby, and my five-year-old was trying to console me (very cute!). I called L&D, and every question they asked, I was like, "Well, I think so. I don't know." Finally, she told me to come in (which they always do). Then, I got really stubborn and didn't want to go in. I wasn't crying because I was in pain anymore, I was crying because I was embarrassed that they were going to say, "This is your third baby; you know how this goes. You're being a big baby!"

We get in there, and I'm hooked up to the monitors. I did ask for a urine test because my side hurt so bad I was afraid of a UTI (never had one, just read about them).

HAD ZERO CONTRACTIONS the whole 2 hours I was there. The nurse was extremely supportive. She kept saying it's better to come in than to be in preterm labor without help. Yeah, yeah, yeah - I'd say that to someone else, but this is ME! lol Aren't we so damn hard on ourselves.

I asked her if the pain was from the position of the baby, and she just said (whether it was just to make me feel better or not), that my baby was incredibly active and strong, and he was basically beating the shit out of my insides. She said, "Look at these accelerations (on the tape). These are incredible." I didn't have a clue what she was talking about, but it made me feel better.

I know other women go through the same thing, but I keep thinking that I should know. Guess it doesn't matter how many kids you have - there are still mysteries in pregnancy! :)

Oh, it's always better to go in. I know how you feel though, with this baby there was one time where I was having chest pains and palpitations with shortness of breath and didn't know weather I should call the doctor or not. Of course I waited too long and ended up having to call the hospital nurse line and they told me to come in anyway. Well, it ended up being nothing, but I'm glad I went anyway, even just for the piece of mind. And when I was pregnant with my son, I had to call the doctor one night because I was having pains in the side of my back that were getting worse. I thought they were just going to tell me it was gass pains and that I was being stupid, but come to find out I actually had a kidney infection! Not fun, but at least I got it treated. I hope you are feeling better today though!

Awww. You're not a big baby! And it definitely is better to be safe than sorry. Imagine if you wouldn't have went in and it would have actually been something. Then you would have been beating yourself up for not going in. Glad you went in and got that peace of mind that you need!!
