22 January 2008
I'm Nicola and 10 weeks and 4 days pregnant. A friend of ours fell pregnant after trying for 5 years and a miscarriage and so we thought, what the heck, lets try ourselves. We are now 8 weeks apart which is fun. She finds out on Thursday if they are having a boy or girl. I dreamt they had a boy so will go with a boy for them. Including myself, there are 9 of us who are pregant, the first lady had hers on New Years Eve, a little girl called Madison and only weight 2.7kg's! Very small! It was a unplanned pregnancy as they have two kids already and she's in her 40's. Another lady who is 2 weeks ahead of me is having her 6th child. Very interesting times.
Only family and a few close friends now about our pregnancy and a number of people are asking me if I am because everyone who can fall pregnant or is a first timer, is pregnant.... so at the moment I'm saying no I'm not.
We will be announcing it in church on the 10th February as that will be the 1 year anniversary of my mothers death. I think it fits. It's hard not having her around. Our baby will not have any blood relative from my side here in NZ. Only in South Africa. I wish my sisters and dad was living here, it would be lovely sharing with them and our baby having a grandpa from my side.
I've been nauseas and threw up on Saturday after eating eggs and bacon which I have had before... go figure! Been craving lots of fruit and can't eat big meals at all. My husband made a lovely lamb roast and all I could eat was alittle but of cauliflower with cheese sauce! Go figure! I'm having to eat small amounts every 2 - 3 hours and first thing in the morning which I really don't feel like, but have to force myself otherwise I just feel ill! I seem to have all this and a foggy brain till after lunch then it kinda clears till about dinner/bed time then it kinda comes back.
I'm tired, but not extremely tired. I'm finding that sleeping in the afternoon doesn't do me any good as I then don't sleep well at night. Sleeping on my tummy and back is my favorite position so when the tummy grows, I'm going to have a hard time sleeping!
I have bought 2 pairs of pants and PJ's maternaty wear as I can't close my pants anymore. I don't seem to have put on any weight though which is good.
Anyway, I think thats it. Oh, I have my first midwife appointment on the 29th January and I think all it's going to be is a questions and answers session. We don't get early and as many scans as America does... you have to pay for that. I'm hoping my midwife will be good. She sounds nice on the phone.
Fears I have is the blighted ovum thing. I've had no bleeding though so who knows. The only thing to clear that will be our first scan.
My husband wants twins, but it's not possible as we have no history of twins in our families that we can recall. Otherwise, 2 at the most. I originally wanted just 1, but that because I've been a only kid most of my life. As long as he chips in ;)
Got to go.
