| 18-11-2008 - First MD visit, 11/14/08 | My mood while writing this blog:excited |
On Friday, John & I went to the OB office and met with the midwife and had our first ultrasound. By measurement, little Shazam was 8 weeks 1 day. My estimated due date stayed the same as calculated by my last period - she was right on target. Her little heart rate was 158. You couldn't see much, but that doesn't stop me from gushing over the ultrasound pictures. It really is really real and really happening.
I am officially going to call Shazam a "her" since my mother told me a wives tale that if the baby's heart rate is lower than 140 then it is male and if it is higher than 150 it is female. I hope maybe people on this site can help me collect data on this & see if it is right.
Speaking of mothers, I told my parents the news last night, 11/17/08. My sister drove down from Columbia to be a part of the "family meeting," although she was the fourth person to know (after myself, John, and my current roommate who is also a nurse and my friend of 22 years).
I was very nervous about how my parents were going to take it, unnecessarily it seems. Of course I started by saying: I bet you are wondering why I have quit smoking and have rushed into buying a house near you. All these life changes all at once must seem a bit off the cuff, but now you will have the puzzle piece that will fit it all together... and I passed them the ultrasound pictures.
They were 100% supportive. My parents are going to make perfect grandparents, and I need my mother's input and help more than anything. I trust her explicitly in these matters. I KNOW she won't feed my little baby solid foods or dangle her upside down or anything remotely ridiculous. Both of them will spoil the hell out of Shazam, which is exactly what grandparents are supposed to do.
Shazam is not the official name, by the way. Its just a joke name that some friends came up with. It sounds funny at the end of any sentence... "Come down here now, Shazam." "Shazam, eat all your vegetables."
Two more pieces of news. First my bloodwork came back today and I have iron deficiency anemia and will be starting an iron supplement. I have never been so happy to find out a kinda bad diagnosis. I have been getting fainting/dizzy spells that have been hard to handle, so maybe the anemia is to blame for a portion of that. I hope it corrects with the supplements.
Second. I freaking started this game wearing a size 34DD bra. I am overflowing out of it, and I have no idea where to buy 34F bras. I don't want to buy things online because out of 10 34DDs that I try on, 1 will actually fit. This is very frustrating. They say I will gain 3 cup sizes. That brings the grand total to 34H. That is just ridiculous. Ridiculous I tell you!
