09-6-2008 - BREAST INFECTION/MINOR PANIC ATTACK/NERVOUS BREAKDOWN

i have a breast infection. :(

I'm on antibiodics, and my right breast STILL hurts. Its HUGE. I mean...I am so oddly lopsided right now...I had a fever of 102, and I felt like DEATH. How did this happen? By being heavily engorged. My breast was so engorged to the point where the milk couldn't even come out. I could literally feel the swollen glands underneath my nipple.

So what did I do?

I cried.
I screamed.
I told Kam that I wasn't a good mother because I was sick and couldn't care for my own child. This caused Kam to go off on me and tell me to pull myself together. *sympathy much?* For some reason, I asked Kam for my brush, and when he brought the wrong one, I attacked him with it. Label me the worlds worst wife, I deserve that title.

Bless Kams heart. For almost 48 hours, he got NO sleep...he had to take care of Zoe and my grown *ss...I couldn't even wash my *ss, literally. He had to bathe me and change my pads. Put my clothes on me. Carry me to the toilet. Take my clothes off. Hold Zoe up to my left breast so she could eat. Try to pump milk from my right breast while dodging swings and fists from me. (the pain...you all will never understand how bad it HURT) Take off work to take care of Zoe and I...its been crazy.

My right breast still hurts like hell, and I have absolutely no energy. At least I can walk now and hold Zoe. The milk is finally coming out, but it still hurts. Why me? Apparently, my body is producing more milk than I can pump. *sigh*

Switching to formula sounds sooooo tempting right now...

OH Kaprice I see why u haven't been able to call me I was engorged but never to the infection point I can't believe that happened to you, and I am gonna send Kam something he is amazing u hear me!! I swear I do think my hubby would be it for me but not without the lilttle complaining and side remarks and probablt laughing at me...Hang in there momma Love u girl and Zo is so darn cute!!!!! text me later if u can...or I'll try to text u...ttyl

Girl hang in there this too shall pass. When my milk first came in and I was engorged I would pump a little just to relieve the pressure but definitely not enough to empty my breast. Girl hang in there your supply will stabilize...probably in about a week or 2.

Oh mama! Girl I'm sorry you had to experience such pain! Don't worry you will get through it. I agree with the other ladies. Massage those bad boys in the shower. When i was engorged i did that and when i breast fed i massaged on the lumps, it helped me, But "luckywhite" raises a goof point, i wonder if it is the pumping that is causing you to produce alot of milk?!?

definatly take a warm shower and massage your breast were there are knots. This will give you such relief and most of the time the warm water will make the milk come out on its own. I pumped sometimes after feeding or before just for the relief. It can be frozen for up to 6mos(be sure to verify) or stay in the ice box for 24 hrs. It was always handy to have it just in cause I needed mommy time.

hey i got mastitus soo many times when i was feeding., you start to recognise the signs and feed out the over production.. i was told to stop pumping as i was stimulating my breasts too much.. and making enough milk to feed the street which caused all the infections..

i found massaging and checking my breasts if i found a hard lump (start of infection) i massaged the area while feeding (or even in the shower) it fended off the blockages,.and kept the infections at bay..

my sister wasnt so lucky she ended up with a huge abcess on her breast from a blockage.. NOT NICE>>

and dont woirry bout the collosal moodswing that went with it.. you were unwell and its really stressful having mastitus.. sounds like you had it BAD!!!!!
