26-7-2008 - Breastfeeding and birth control, change of plans Hot...why isn\'t the air on?!My mood while writing this blog:
Hot...why isn\'t the air on?!

Question: to all of the mothers who are breastfeeding, what are you doing for birth control?

My doctor said that my only option for an oral contraceptive was something called the mini-pill. However, you have to take it everyday, and if you skip one, well, cross your fingers and hope for the best. Since this whole housewife thing is fairly new to me, I'm running around our apartment like a chicken with my head cut off, cleaning, nursing Zoe, changing diapers, folding laundry, feeding the dog...I honestly believe I would forget to take the birth control one fateful day, then all hell would break loose. We love Zoe with all of our hearts and soul, but if I see another plus sign on an EPT before the next 3 years, I would go insane. I don't want to do the iud...as strange as it might sound, I want a birth control that will give me my period every 28 days...I need proof that its actually working.

Moving along...
I planned on going back to school in the fall to finish my Masters Degree. But, things have changed. Even before Zoe was born, I struggled with the thought of putting her in daycare. Now that she's here, and I've been able to be at home with her everyday and nurse her, play with her, lay her down for her naps and blow razzberries on her belly while I change her diaper, and not have to worry if some stranger is treating my baby right...Kam and I have decided that I should stay at home and continue to take care of her. However, what about my income? At Tuskegee, I received an anual stipend for participating in the graduate program. But, if I wasn't a full time student, I wouldn't receive any money. Before Zoe was born, Kam and I payed everything half and half. So, if I wasn't in school, we'd only have his income, which would have made us...BROKE! lol! But...God is good. My husband decided to look for a new job, but since Kam is a full time student himself, nobody wanted to work around his schedule. However, last week he got a call from a company who is able to work around his schedule. He starts his new job in August, which pays significantly more than his last job. So, I'll be able to stay at home with Zoe!!! I have some concern regarding Kameron, since he's going to be a full time student finishing up his last semester with a full time job. He'll be tired, stressed, and have less time to spend with Zoe. But if he feels he'll be able to handle it, I trust that he'll be alright. A hard working and educated man...Zoe and I are blessed! I will complete my Masters when Zoe is 1, which is when I'll stop breastfeeding her.

I put up a few new pics of the Howell family.
Thank you and goodnight!

Hey KP!!! It's great that you will be able to stay home with Zoe. I tell you if I didn't have my mom here to care for Amira while I worked I don't know what I'd do. The mere thought of daycare sickens me...they go there and all kinds of nastiness gets to them. Well take care & kiss Zoe for me.

Girl I am loving how big Zoe is getting my God! She is so cute...so about the birth control I was on that with Aj but with him being premature and me having to pump and store his milk I never did put myself on a pumping schedule although I was taking the pill everyday I was to be pumping or nursing regularly and amazing got pregant with Jailyn but since I stopped nursing so early with her I got on the NuvaRing and I am very pleased with it period every 3rd Tuesday of the month so I can't complain...And good to hear about Kam he is such a trooper supporting you both and I don't blame u about those daycare woos I couldn't do it I swear I would have a fit its like they get so sick so easily and its crazy but I'm glad u get to stay home with your baby and bond really well!!! Hey girl, we are only using condoms and contraceptive foam. I have been on birth control for about 15 years now, and I said that I won't be using them ever again. Once I stopped taking them, they have my hormones all out of whack since my body got use to them, and now I have to take pills daily for my thyroid. You think about getting the shot?

Excellent. I couldn't have written it better myself in regards to some of the concerns you have for your child. I never had childcare anxiety when I had my firstborn. However, that was over 9 years ago, almost 10. Times have changed considerably and I'm willing to sacrifice whatever it is to be home with KJ. I will not be hauled off and carted away because of what someone has done to my child. I digress.

Kiss that good man of yours and make it a hallmark moment. Alot of men do not support the decision for their wife, significant other to stay at home. It takes a great man to realize the qualities only a mother can instill in a child.
Sorry to babble, have a blessed day!
