| 08-7-2009 - 15 week appt today | My mood while writing this blog:ok |
Well I had my 15 week midwife appt today. The OB doctor where I go has two midwife on staff and I will see either a midwife or the OB at all of my appts. I have to admit I like seeing the midwife better as she was a lot more in tune with my needs and took the time to answer my questions without making me feel rushed.
The midwife said that the cramping I am experiencing is probably normal and could be because its my second pregnancy and I am already streched---so thus the uterus is looser and can cramp easier. She also said it could be round ligament pain and to call back if it got worse (happening more than 6-7 times an hour) or if I had any bleeding with it. Its nice to be reassured that these pains can be normal.
She felt the top of my uterus which is allready near my belly button! I thought at 15 weeks it would be lower - guess not. Makes me think that the flutters I have been feeling may have been the baby?
She found the heartbeat with a doppler and thought it sounded a little slow (ok now Im starting to worry). She said it was 130 and that would be ok if the baby was sleeping but not if it was awake. She pulled out an u/s machine and sure enought little baby b was sleeping. The machine is old --and as she said "came with the office" so could not measure the baby or the heartrate....but I could see it beating. The baby also looked a lot bigger--especially the arms and legs! You could also see a spine and bones growing---cool! Has anyone else experienced a slower heartrate at 15 + weeks? I have a doppler that I use when I am home-- I count the beats for 20 seconds and then multiply by 3--it is normally between 144 - 156. Is 130 anything to worry about?
According to my last scan (done at 13 weeks)the baby is growing well and measuring with a december 25th due date! However she is not going to change my due date from december 29th as they are close together.
I have to go back in 2 weeks to check and see if the bacterial vaginosis is gone. She will also re- check the heartrate....maybe this time I will drink juice before hand! FYI for anyone suffering from bacterial vaginosis the midwife said it is nothing to worry about unless it is left untreated. If you have an infection at anypoint during pregnancy they will probably want to retest you at monthly intervals to make sure it has not returned. (this is a releif as I had read a lot of scary things on the internet about it---but I am choosing to listen to the doctor!)
Hope all of you ladies are well....
