24-3-2009 - 15 weeks! GoodMy mood while writing this blog:
Good

Finally I am getting to write an update! I can't believe I haven't written in so long. I've been really busy working on a special project at work, and Buck has had one illness after another, which means I have had them too. Plus my husband owns his own business and we've been trying to get all of our tax stuff together. This is always a crazy time of year for us. I've had a lot of appointments. Prenatal appointments have just been routine; not much to report there. I went to physical therapy because of the pelvic pain I had in the last pregnancy. The midwife referred me there so we could develop a plan to try to avoid it this time. The therapist did give me some good advice about being aware of my movements, and showed me a whole lot of exercises. However, I stopped doing them after 2 days because they were causing me to have pelvic pain. It may have gotten better if I had kept it up but I just don't want to risk making it worse. Anyone who has suffered from this in pregnancy would understand. A lot of people say physiotherapy only aggravates it anyway, from what I have read. So I won't be going back there. If the pain comes on (maybe it won't) then I'll just have to really take it easy. Last pregnancy I was on bed rest for 2 months because of that and other problems. I was also referred to the perinatologist because I am just entering that window of "advanced maternal age" (baby born when mother is age 35 and up). They did some tests to determine the risk of birth defects/genetic problems and everything came back really good, with very little risk. I will just go back there once more for a detailed ultrasound at 20 weeks, which is nice. And also I went to see a nutritionist. This was my request because I am so concerned about gaining too much weight (I am not exactly starting out "small"), and also because Buck weighed over 10 pounds when he was born. I didn't have GD but I figure it would not hurt to have some dietary advice. She wasn't much help though. I have been on Jenny Craig before and her philosophies were pretty much the same, just based on the food pyramid. I haven't been able to stick to any regimen though because for the past maybe 3 weeks or so I have had a VERY strange relationship with food. I have developed strong aversions to so many things, then a lot of times I feel really nauseous and sometimes throw up after I eat. I had a lot of queasiness in the first few weeks but really around 12 weeks was when the major nausea started. I thought that was when it was supposed to get better! Oh well, maybe this is just a phase that will taper off soon. On Saturday I go for a 16 week ultrasound. They scheduled this one to check the competency of my cervix. I had a LEEP procedure back in 1994 and it left my cervix scarred and weak which wreaked some havoc in my last pregnancy, so they're going to see if it's OK this time. I am hoping they will be able to tell the baby's sex...please please! That is all I am thinking about! I think it just has to be a girl because so far this pregnancy has been 100% different than the last one. I know every pregnancy is different but I really feel that it's a girl. I won't be disappointed if it's a boy either, of course! Buck would love a baby brother. Well this is getting really lengthy so I will wrap it up. One more thing--if anyone has had a VBAC I would love to hear your story. At first I said I definitely want another C-section but the more I read about VBAC I am now trying to decide if I might want to try it, although I am scared to death at the idea!
