17-11-2008 - labor ???? OkMy mood while writing this blog:
Ok

Well, I had my glucose test today for gestational diabetes.. Hopefully, everything is okay. The stuff didn't taste bad at all. It was actually sort of good.

I also had a Dr's appt. It was nothing exciting but I was able to talk to the Doctor about labor/delivery... Like most pregnant people labor scares the crap out of me.. So, I asked about having an elective c-section. He said that he does elective c-sections however, he had to go over the benefits/downsides to having one..... So now I'm confused. My mom thinks it's dumb for me to even consider choosing to have a c-section.. My husband wouldn't care eitherway... To me, having a scheduled surgery sounds much more appealing than going through hours of PAIN... Does anyone have an opinions?? He told me that I'd have to know by 35 weeks if I chose to have a c-section......

Hey Kelly, this is just my view... my feeling is that a c-section is major surgery and although generally safe it can carry complications... when there is no particular reason to have surgery the general consensus from what I have read/heard is that a vaginal delivery is the safest way to proceed and is definitely the easiest to recover from. Surgery is surgery so it's best to think carefully. If you're really worried about labor and the pain, by all means go for an epidural.. these days they often use what they call 'mobile epiduarals' which block the pain but still allow you to move around and feel enough pressure so you know you've got to push.. then if you didn't progress enough and needed a c-section they could just top it up with a bigger dose and wheel you into surgery straight away. Hope that helps!! Just remember... your body was designed to have a baby and will generally do what it's supposed to! Janine xx

What I would do if I were torn between both is to research. Try to read as much as you can about both and weigh the pros and cons... Labor is probably different for every woman, some have lots of pain and some can just bear with it, and it depends on how you feel at the time too. So try not to be nervous and just think about the fact that if you do have the C-section, you won't get to experience any part of the birth process. And for some people, that is just wnat they want... Others want to feel what mother nature has in store for them, so it's ok to do what YOU want to do, as long as you feel good about it!
I decided to let things take their course... If I need a C-section for some reason, I'll do it, but if everything goes smoothly and the baby is ok, I'll do the vaginal birth, without hesitating on asking for pain killers if I don't feel comfortable! I hope this helps. Let us know what you decided when you actually decide! :)

I read this articiel once, and it said that theres more maternity nurses that acually reccomend having a c-section then those that recommend a natural birth. But your going to hear things about both sides. Really i think its up to you and what you feel comfertable with. I think it would be hard tho to have to take care of a new born and have to recover from surgery.

You aksed the wrong question...LOL Many people (me not included) dont agree with that!

Do what you choose to do, dont let anyone (but maybe your dr) make your mind up for you! Weigh out the pro's and con's to both and then make up your mind. I will tell you from experience , labor and delivery was not NEARLY as bad as all the stories you hear. I honestly would do everything all over again with no prob. I did have the epidural around 7-8 cm and seriously everything was Great! (Sounds wierd I know) The pain for me was not unbearable..but the length of time with no food and sleep was the deal breaker for me. But if you decide to do ohh natural ...let go of control....There may be many things that you wouldnt plan for but happen. Actually c-sec also because of post stuff. But like I said make your choice for you...no one else! Good luck ..let me know what you decide!
