18-5-2009 - 18 week ultrasound OkMy mood while writing this blog:
Ok

On Friday (May 15) I had my ultrasound scheduled for the hospital. My doctor sets the ultrasound up, and all I have to do is schedule it.

My appointment was for 8:00am, so I planned on arriving at 7:45 so I had time to find the right room and fill out paperwork. My husband and I had to drive separately since we both had to work afterwards. He had left the house a few minutes before I left with my 20 month old daughter. He called me from inside the hospital just as I was pulling in the parking lot to ask me where to go. I told him to ask at the front desk. I came in a few minutes later, carrying my daughter, the diaper bag, and my purse. I asked at the front desk where to go for ultrasounds, and they sent me to radiology. I got to the radiology desk, and was told that they couldn't find me on the schedule. I was really upset because I had been looking forward to the ultrasound, plus my husband and I had to make special work arrangements to come. The radiology receptionist told me that the only other place in the hospital that they did ultrasounds was on the 3rd floor, but that was only for older mothers and high risk pregnancies. I told her that I didn't think I was high risk. She called the 3rd floor anyway, and sure enough- I was scheduled for there! I was kind of worried that my doctor would send me to the high risk ultrasound, and I hoped that if I was high risk she would have told me! I asked the receptionist if the ultrasound was done in the labor and delivery area (which is on the 3rd floor, and I knew exactly where that was). She said yes, so I headed up there. Also, I was upset because my husband wasn't anywhere to be found, and our phones didn't work in the hospital, so there was no way to get ahold of him.

I got up to the labor and delivery area, and that receptionist had no clue where the ultrasounds were done on the 3rd floor. After talking to about 4 people, someone finally told me that I would have to go down to the 2nd floor, and then take a different set of elevators up to a different section of the 3rd floor. By now it was after 8:00am, and I was still lugging my daughter and bags all over the hospital with me! I FINALLY found where I was supposed to go, at about 8:15am. And guess who was in the waiting room already? MY HUSBAND!!!!! I was like, How did you know where to go?!?!? He said that the front desk receptionist sent him straight up there! Must have been a different receptionist than I had talked to!

The ultrasound was a lot of fun! The high risk ultrasounds are done in much nicer rooms than the radiology ultrasounds! With my daughter, the whole ultrasound (in radiology) only lasted about 15 min. They did do some measuring, but we felt rushed the whole time. And they only gave us 2 pictures. This time, they carefully measured each bone in the baby's body, and took a lot of time showing us all parts of the baby. They had a specialist come in and talk to us after the ultrasound. He was just as confused as we were about the whole "high risk" thing, because he said everything was fine! And my doctor set everything up, so it's not like I screwed up and scheduled it at the wrong place! They made us a CD of the whole ultrasound, and there were a few video clips of the heart beating. A much nicer experience than my daughter's ultrasound!

It's amazing how this baby looks nothing like my daughter did on her ultrasound, which was done at approximately the same time. They have different shaped noses, heads, and cheeks. My daughter still looks like her ultrasound pic too! I will put comparison pics up at the end.

Oh, and we decided to wait til the baby is born to find out the gender :).
