| 22-6-2009 - Update to Just Pray | My mood while writing this blog:tired. |
Ok so against medical advice my husband and I traveled down to Philadelphia this past weekend to visit his niece at CHOP. When we arrived at her room we were introduced to her nurses and her team of doctors. They are all working especially with her and her nurse is just that, she is only her nurse. All of them were so kind to us. And very dedicated to her care. She is still on a ventalator. So they have her in a medically induced coma and on meds to paralize her which keep her from moving and pulling out the trake. We were told it was ok to talk to her. So after we gowned up, masked up, and staralized our hands we entered her room. She had a cooling blanket on so her little hands were cold to the touch. The nurse said we could hold her hand or rubb her hair. My husband began talking to her and calling her his little fishy. (That's his nickname for her) As he talked she began to move her arms and legs. After a few minutes she started trying to lift her head. Her nurse came over and had to tell my husband to stop talking. See her mind was responding to his voice and she wanted to wake up and play. They ended up having to give her more meds. This is a wonderful sign though. It means that they doctors at the ER were right. There probably isn't any sign of brain damage. Which is awesome... Although she is still not breathing on her own, she is breathing 70% and the machines are breathing 30% for her. Again great sign. Her body is fighting off what ever infection caused her to stop breathing. She is getting stronger everyday. She is still running a slight fever but again that to is getting weeker. They don't know for sure how long her recovery time will be but right now it looks as if she is getting better. They plan on waking her Friday or Saturday if she looses the fever completely.
Thank you all for your prayers and support. Obviously she still has a long road to go but everything is looking up. And for all those concerned with me. I told my husband that as much as I love little Olivia, this will be my only trip to CHOP. It is to hard on my body and on the baby. He understands. I will update you all as often as I can as to her progress. Again thank you.
