31-5-2009 - What would you do? thinking mood.My mood while writing this blog:
thinking mood.

Currently I am staying in a 1,049 square ft apartment with 2 bed room 2 bath. Our lease is up on September 16th of this year. I used to stay in a 468 sq ft apartment before my husband moved in. Now we were thinking about moving back to our old apartment, but I started thinking about the sq ft being too small. Although the price range which starts at 499 is perfect, but its not enough for 2 adults and one baby. My in laws gave me a baby bed which I heard it was huge and also I saw it for myself last night. Plus we was giving a king size bed. The baby bed comes with its own changing table that looks like a dresser almost. So just imagine a king size bed, a big baby crib and a changing table in a 468 ft sq apartment??? I won't be able to go to the bath room let alone the crib wouldn't fit. So I am trying to talk my husband into getting a 651 sq ft with the price of 580.00 but he said that cost too much money and we can't afford it. Oh and I forgot to mention they are giving me a play pin which I heard it was huge as well. I wish I was working again so we wouldn't be going through this but he is the only one working at the moment. So I was talking about looking into renting a house instead but I have to talk with my husband about that. Anyways....can I get some opinions from you guys please???

however much space you think you are going to need with a baby multiply if by 1,000, babies take up so much space with all of there things, even the two bedroom you are in now is pushen it size wise, girl you need more space!!!

you might need a bigger place later on..we had a 515 sq ft with first child it was ok when they are under 1yrs old but you start getting more things and you might start feeling crowed especially if you have alot of furniture.

Take the smaller one until your able to work so it won't be a struggle for your hubby. He won't have something else to complain about. When you get back on your feet then I guess you'll need to move again. I know its a pain, but you can always keep some of the things boxed up until you move into bigger quarters. Just imagine having the space, but your husband refusing to let you use it for the baby. We have a spare room, and my husband turned it into an office. He refuses to let me use it as a nursery and is being an ass about it. So I'll just keep the baby in our room in a bassinet keeping him up all night until he gives in. Two can play at that game. We can move the office downstairs next to the living room, but he just wants to be difficult. He is fighting giving up anything for this baby tooth and nail. But I will win in the end trust me.

This is long but here it goes........

It is tough time all around. ( I'm sitting here watching the pres new conference about GM banruptcy = more jobs lost). My husband (named Barry also) & I were in tight times for a long time when we younger, so I say it is better to live in a small apt with a baby for a year or so now than trying to stay in the big place, digging a deeper hole of debt and still having to live in a small place later plus having more debt piled on. It may not be what u planned but think of it this way, usually baby gifts can be returned without much hassle ( if u need to) & once you start working, be wise w/ the money and in a year or so you can be out of there. On the Target website they have a closet hanging organizer for $19.99 that creates a 2nd row for hanging clothes use one in the bedroom and livingroom closet. Get rid of your bed for a queen, keep the larger baby bed (If you are in that apt for a year/more the baby is going to grow, you will need the larger baby bed). I think I know what type of changing table u may be speaking of, those are nice looking pieces of furniture, I say keep it too. Put it in your living room to place the tv on top of or if you have a tv that will be wall mounted put the accesories on top of it. One side of it has a door and the other side has drawers. Use the drawers side for baby clothes & the door side for addtl dvds, other household items - linen etc.. Fold the playpen when not in use, or it may be good to have it at the babysitter's home for the baby. Small places don't usually have a lot of storage. I am the queen of space saving, Our first apt was 3 rooms on the 3rd floor, no AC, mice & roaches galore and we stayed there for 2yrs. Your place will not be nearly that bad. It will be ok. Those 2yrs were only a drop in the bucket compared to how long we have been out of that dump. Before you know it you will be on to bigger & better things.

Oh dear- I'm in the same boat as you. My fiance and I live in a huge apartment right now for 550 a month (we're in a small town) but we have to move in with his parents because we can't afford to live here, or anywhere for a while since we both haven't finished college yet. So the apartment below his parents house is a small bedroom (big enough for a queen bed and 2 dressers) a small kitchen (where the baby will go, how white trash!) and a small bathroom. That's it. But we'll be there for the most 5 months. Yes, it will drive me insane and I will have a hard time doing it- but then we'll graduate, and move into a home, hopefully. I mean, God willing. I just figure that we will do what we need to do. It will be hard for a while- but then it will be over. So if you guys can't afford it, maybe you can try to make it work for a little while. Be creative- don't take the changing table and use your dresser as one. The play pin can be folded, right? Keep it in the corner of the living room when not in use. Maybe see if you can sell your crib and get a small convertible one. If your husband and you can come up with a good budget that works for the next size up apartment- that would be awesome! Hang in there girl- we can do it! :)

I would try to seel the King size bed and get a queen size. Then you can have the crib with you then put the pack n play in the living room . It won't be forever. I know it is not what you want but i'm feeling the tough times too. We are trying to buy a 3 bedroom house but won't be able to until August at the earliest. Renting a 3 bedroom in Corpus is more expensive here than buying one. We currently rent a 2 bed house but I have a 4 yr old stepson. I envisioned this perfect, cute nursey. But, the baby and my son might have to share a room for a few months. I got rid of his queen size bed and got a twin for him so the crib, dresser and changing table would fit. I'm soooo tired!

You could always put the crib in the living room. The baby will get used to the noise. I know its not ideal but it would work for the time being.
