05-12-2008 - Crazy Doctor!!!

My mood while writing this blog: amused/confused

On Tuesday i took Cadence to her doctor's appointment. I went in there already expecting her doctor to yell at me so it wasn't a surprise when he did. Before he even came in though i talked with the nurse first. She asked me how much Cadence was eating and i told her 4-5oz every 3-4 hours. She seemed really pleased with my answer. She told me that was perfectly fine and that Cadence would let me kno when she was full. The the nurse weighed and measured her. She was 8lbs 12oz and was 21 inches long. So she only gained a pound since birth. When the nurse had finished her little exam she left to fetch the doctor. The doctor came in and wasted no time. He jumped right into the dreaded question, "so how much are u feeding Cadence?". I told him what i told the nurse and he got super serious all of a sudden. He told me i was feeding her way too much and that if i didn't slow it down she'd be a porker. Those were his exact words. Then he told me that she should be eating 1 1/2 oz every 2-3 hours. Are u kidding me? My child would starve to death. He told me that babies have no idea what they are doing and would just keep eating. Thats not true at all! At least not with my daughter. She tells me when she is full. Sometimes she doesn't even eat a full 4-5oz. Every other feeding she might eat 2-3oz. It all depends on her and she will definitely let me kno she is done. She'll either spit the milk back out, push the bottle away, or close her mouth real tight so i can't put the bottle back in. Oh and the best part was when he told me if i feed her too much she will throw up (which she hasn't) and if that happens it can get into her lungs and kill her. What kinda doctor tells a new mom that?! Crazy, crazy man!!! I might have believed him if he didn't already tell me on her previous visit that breastfeeding is bad for babies. I think i need a new doctor. What do ya'll think?
