| 11-2-2009 - My Life Saver | My mood while writing this blog:Amazing |
Hey ladies! Things are really starting to look up for me and Cadence. I know its only been a week since i wrote my last sad blog but i'm seriously feeling like things are getting better. I bought a book a couple weekends ago and finally opened it up this past weekend to read it. I'm sure many of u have heard of it. Its called The Happiest Baby On The Block. Now several ladies on this site tried to tell me about it but i was too hard headed to believe that anything would ever help me with Cadence's fussiness. I was so wrong. The minute i tried it it worked like magic and has worked everytime since. No longer do i have to ever let her cry it out which is what i had to do (reluctantly) several times a day.
So with all that said, i feel like i now should pass my new found wisdom on to those who might also benefit from it. The technique the book talks about is called the 5 "S's"
1.) Swaddling
2.) Side/Stomach--holding ur baby on his/her side
3.) Shushing--white noise (vacuum cleaner, blow dryer,.)
4.) Swinging--rocking ur baby in ur arms
5.) Sucking--give ur baby a pacifier
I'm sure seperately u've tried all 5 but if u put all of it together and perfectly it works like magic. Trust me on this. I didn't think anything would ever work for cadence. I even tried all of these things seperately. She hated being swaddled so i thought it would never help soothe her. One day i was at my wits end and thought what the heck i'll try it. First i wrapped her (she still screamed), then i held her on her side (crying louder), next i took her to her room and turned on her very loud fan for the white noise effect (she was still crying hysterically), then i gave her her pacifier (she was starting to calm down but was still fighting me), last i started bouncing/rocking her in my arms while i held the pacifier in her mouth. With the last step complete, she was calm and asleep. Its amazing how quick and easy it is to do it. It might take a couple tries to get it all right but once u do its amazing how fast it works. I used to have to let her cry it out several times a day and now i never do it. Anyways, its worth a shot if ur baby gets a tiny bit fussy and needs help calming down like Cadence does. The reason why it works so well is because it puts ur baby back in the womb again. I mean if u think about it all the 5 "S's" resemble what ur baby experienced while in ur belly. The book just explains that some babies just need to feel like they are safe and back in ur belly again. So every once in a while i "put cadence back in the womb" sounds crazy but it really makes so much sense if u read it. So i encourage u all to go buy the book. There is so much more to it. Anyways, i hope that helps someone out there who (like i was) is going insane. It worked wonders on Cadence and shes the fussiest baby IN THE WORLD. lol!
