My mood while writing this blog: smart |
So I was reading an article in a baby mag... and I find myself doing that more lately. You can never know enough right? even if my friends seem to think I'm a "pro" by now! haha
They say to consider your babies first 3 months of life as the "4th trimester" lol
Just a few things we may or may not have tried to help ease our little ones crying :(
1. Soothe with touch- Research has shown that regualar rubdowns help babies sleep better and cry less.. so try a good ole rubdown for at least 10 minutes a day.
2. Strip DOWN- take your shirt off and hold that beautiful baby close ladies. They love the skin on skin contact. Not at walmart though... don't call me for bail money ok? lol
3. soothe them with sounds- for those of us that are tip toeing around the house after our baby FINALLY goes to sleep STOP (easy for them to say right?) They say that the noise inside mama's belly is louder then a vacume! that's some loud noise! They first develop hearing at 9 weeks in the womb. Even with the racket noises outside, the toilet flushing or even the TV they've heard it ALL in there.. and in my case Poor Nolan had to hear me scream at my other 2 boys to stop jumping off their bed for MONTHS! haha In all honesty my little guy sleeps best in the living room right in the middle of the circus that is my home LOL. SOOOOO Make some noise ladies! run your dishwasher, do a load of laundry... turn Grey's anatomy up!! (oooooo Mc Dreamy) they say try to match the wails of the baby so as loud as they are be even louder.
4. make sure you are giving eye contact. They love their mama's face :) and they associate your face with smell of you and comfort.
5. Night owls??? Expose your baby to SUNLIGHT (with caution) take them for a walk in the daylight... make them regular. (it also helps with that extra weight many of us are still carrying around... or just me.. whatever)
6. let a little light shine :) we think that just because our babies were in pitch black in the womb they need to be now that they are out to sleep... nope, they like a little light so plug in a night light :)
and last but not least.... in order for us to soothe our babies needs we need to be soothed ourself :) no one to rick us to sleep but we do need to make sure we are eating right and sleeping as well as possible, we can't soothe a baby with a cranky mama :)
thanks for taking the time to read and I hope some of this helps if you have exhausted other options :)
