My mood while writing this blog: sad |
A huge tornado ripped through my town today, injuring 40 people and killing a mother and her 3 month old daughter. I have no words really for what I have seen today. I left my house (trailer) to go to my future parent in laws when I saw that severe weather was in store for the day. As the storms got closer I saw that they were VERY severe. We heard the tornado warning go off and headed to a closet that was under a stair case, me, my 2 boys and a 110 pound black lab.. yea, that was fun!. We heard the winds pick up and the sound of things hitting the house and the sound of glass breaking. After about an hour of sitting in a closet we didn't hear anything anymore except the sound of sirens. We knew it was not going to look good. Coming out and looking around the house was ok, shoot even the little trees outside were standing. Then we packed up thinking it was ok to head on home and see what happened to our place (keep in mind we had no outside info since the power was out) we saw it... a f-4 tornado had leveled the whole sub-division we were in. Houses FLAT, 100 year old trees up by their roots, people outside hugging each other and crying. It was something I had never seen before except in movies or on the weather channel. I drive through town and see all the damage. It made me cry, I asked my 5 year old if he wanted to say a prayer for the people that had been injured and lost their homes and business's. This was truely a very sad day for our community. My place was fine in fact it looked like it had just rained and it was quite peaceful. That's how these tornado's work I guess. The tornado left their house beautiful and demolished one's just down the street.
I'm very thankful to have been in a safe place even though I was closer where I was then if I were here in my house, but with a trailer "mobile home" you can never be to safe.
I am also very thankful for my family and my boys especially, I can't imagine what it would be like to lose one of them. The lady that died holding her baby girl only 3 months old touched my heart and I pray for her, her husband and for that little girl.
