| 31-8-2009 - quick update | My mood while writing this blog:fatigued... |
So I havent posted anything in a while so I thought Id post a quick update. I havent posted my birth story yet but I intend on at some point, I have been "in the process" of writting it for like 3 weeks now, its just hard to find time to write it out what with a new baby in the mix. As most of you know, Sydney Evangeline Joy arrived on July 27th 2009 after I was induced at 39 weeks. She is 5 weeks old today, and is doing great!!! I am breastfeeding her exclusively and although it can be frustrating and discouraging (she likes to snack 30 or so times a day as opposed to feeding for a decent amount of time at less frequent intervals, my 150$ breast pump doesnt work for 'shit' and I dont want to waste money on another, so she gets "the boob" all the time resulting in me litterally spending most of my time with her on my breast not to mention the wear and tear on my nipples) despite all of this, I plan on keeping it up until she is at least 6 months old, that or until she gets her first tooth *ouch*. She doesnt sleep through the night yet but I didint expect her to this early in the game....She does however have a sleep schedule pretty much down pat, she passes out around 11pm, gets up to feed between 1-2am and wakes up a second time between 5-6am then depending if chose to go back to bed or not, she will either stay up with me or sleep until 8ish at which point our day begins...Its not so bad. I have had a few bumps in the road up to date with little miss Sydney though....for one, she has insane gas, I mean this kid farts more than 100X/day (is this normal?) Ive tried switching up my diet but no dice....That, and she gets terrible cramps in the evening/night (sometimes keeping us both up for hours on end), Ive tried ovol, infacol, warm baths, belly/back rubs, the colic hold, gripe water...and nothing seems to make her more comfortable, its heartbreaking :( I talked to my Dr about it and well there doesnt appear to be much more I can do..hopefully itll pass and she'll "grow out" of it. Another problem Ive had with Sydney is her constantly wanting to be in my arms. No word of a lie this child has to be in someones arms all waking hours of the day/night. "What to expect the first year" (book) and the public health nurse that visited us at home both said that a newborn should be picked up whenever they cry, it doesnt spoil them they both said, apparently its important to pick them up when they cry so that they know someone will tend to them when there is something they need, something about it making for a more confident, trusting baby who in the long run will need less attention. Well I think thats a load of crap!!! I did what they said and now Ive created a monster! She wont sit in her rocker or her vibrating chair, I cant lay her down unless she is sleeping, I can barely go to the bathroom without her in my arms, the only time she doesnt fuss when not in someones arms is in her car seat in the car (the car needs to be moving or she cries) or in her stroller. Everytime she gets set down even if its for a moment she wails and screams bloody murder, the moment you pick her up, the tears and screaming stops....Even as I typed this she is in my arms :| Its really frustrating, I cant help but feel like she'ss spoiled big time!!! I would let her just cry it out but for one, it breaks my heart to hear/see her so upset I mean the tears litterally run down her little cheeks and she just stares up at you balling and secondly she screams and cries so loudly I and others in my household litterally end up with a headache within minutes. It sucks! Other than the few problems Ive mentioned everything is geat with Sydney, she is generally a happy baby and other than the constantly being in my arms shes been pretty easy to tend to. She has put on 2lbs 3.5 ounces since she was born 5 weeks ago which is really good (then again she does feed constantly!!) Up to date, all is peachy, I love being a mom and Mike loves being a dad!!! She is the apple of our eyes, our sunshine, our everything! Its amazing is all I can say! Ill update you all again soon, and I should post my birth story fairly soon, sooner if this little monster would let me set her down occasionaly :P
