| 03-1-2009 - Could Paraffin help me get some SLEEP!!! |
My mood while writing this blog: super hopeful & well rested! |
So after reading tons of advice on splints, ice, stretches, sleeping on an incline, homeopathy, ointments, dandelion tea (all of which have helped but not nearly enough or stopped helping!) I found some recommendations on paraffin wax baths! I am quite familiar with them from my RMT training, but wasn't sure my swollen throbbing hands would benefit from HEAT!
One of my concerns was that the "home use" models don't get therapeutically hot enough....130-140degrees is needed. So I bought a crockpot with a warm setting and use a meat thermometer to make sure the temp is below 145. Some paraffin ($10per block x2 at medical supply), some plastic wrap and 2 oven mitts are all I needed. I used it 2x last night, (the last time just before bed) and OMG I slept til 930am this morning with
NO PAIN!!!! *insert backflips here* I've been waking in pain btwn 3am and 5am for the last 2wks and not getting a lot of sleep.
PS... I ran hands under ice-cold water post 2nd treatment before bed
I'll keep you posted on whether or not this was just a lucky night or perhaps the solution I've been desperate for! PS... my hands are also super soft now too, what a bonus!
