My mood while writing this blog: confused |
I know you are all aware of my battles with CTS...and lemme tell you, labour should be a cakewalk by comparison!! The shooting pains that wake me at night and have put me into a recliner to sleep are worse than ever...and now combine lightning jolts with intense ITCHING!!! I'm thankful that much of this discomfort is reduced during the day, and is mostly tolerable.
The itching....prompted a friend of mine to encourage me to talk to my midwife....she had healthy twin boys at 32wks due to Hellp Syndrome. (one symptom is itchy hands/feet). My midwife was not concerned about my 10lb in 1wk weight gain or my 130/80 blood pressure....which was lower the day before when I saw her.....as I have NO other symptoms. No headaches, abdominal pain, no seeing spots etc etc. Gaining "water weight" at this stage is common and she did say, if I wanted to be extra sure I could go to my MD and request blood/urine work to check liver enzymes and glucose/protein.
My doc, who doesn't like midwives due to 1 of her clients having pre-eclampsia undiagnosed, was annoyed that I had been sent back to her. (you see she doesn't want to be responsible at this stage of the pregnancy when I, in her opinion, should be seeing an OB) My BP in her office, after she looked horrified to hear was 130/80 was initially 150/75 when she did it, (what did she expect, she freaked me out) and quickly dropped to 130/70. She again told me she was disappointed and concerned with my decision to choose a midwife.
Sooooooooooo....the blood/urine was done and I am awaiting the results while she scrambles to arrange an OB consult for me...(without even knowing the lab results). In the meantime, i have spoken to the midwife agency, and they assured me that if they were concerned they would arrange an immediate OB consult themselves.
I await the labs at 3pm....I'm certain they will be fine!

Friday, 13 Feb I dont know much about midwives. I have always gone through an OBGYN. You seem like a very intelligent woman and i know that you know your body and if something doesnt seem right, and your midwife says otherwise, you would get a second opinion like you are doing now. just be careful!! you are almost through this!! Good Luck! (((HUGS))) secondtry -
Friday, 13 Feb I too think its great you went with a midwife. In my Bradley birthing class, TWO of the students are Drs themselves! They say they would NEVER birth the way their hospitals encourage their patients too. However, just like drs..midwifes can vary with care, knowledge, and experience. My dr is a big advocate of midwifery..and knows my midwife well..and has even had births with her. I chose a midwife that is through the hospital. They have a midwife clinic with 13 midwives. Otherwise, I think it would have been hard for me to choose one randomly not associated with the hospital.
Your Dr should not be "poo pooing" your choices so much. She could have helped you more in the beginning by suggesting a midwife she heard of or someone she recommended..rather than working against you. Hang in there...but if you become high risk, you may have to go back to your dr anyhow. How is your protein intake? Are you gettng 80-100 grams a day?? Its a TON I know, but it can help with soooo many of those strange pregnancy symptoms..the many ways it can help are endless! And of course keep refined carbs and white breads and pastas far away until the pregnancy is done! Good luck girl! jeff -
Friday, 13 Feb It's amazing the difference you can have between dr's. Mine was thrilled when I said I wanted to use a midwife. Got all excited and started telling me how she wished more people would use midwives...
