16-3-2009 - Stretch & Sweep

My mood while writing this blog: ok!

Well.... i don't know if it can really be called a stretch and sweep.... or an attempted reach and irritate! LOL. Either my midwife has short fingers, or my cervix is very high and pointed posterior. She did say she was able to insert the tip of only 1 finger into the cervix, but due to it's hooked position, couldn't reach into the neck and "sweep". Nonetheless, she did say it was about 1cm open (not sure if all the way up) and that just fiddlin'/poking 'round with it can still bring about labour if my body is ready. I'm a wee bit crampy, but nothing serious....no spotting just yet. We discussed my options regarding what happens if I go overdue...and I told her by no means do I wish to go past 42 wks. This keeps me in their care, vs. OB. At 8 days overdue....hoping not to go that far.... I would have an ultrasound and the option to have prostaglandins applied at the hospital, followed by another ultrasound prior to 42wks. Sooooooooo..... we'll just have to see what happens. In the mean time... I plan to continue house preparations, mabe vacuuming will help!!

Oh, and by the way, it didn't actually hurt...not what she was doing to the cervix...but the knuckle of her ring finger pressing on the pelvic bone down there was uncomfortable! Probably still less uncomfortable that if she'd tried using her entire hand!!!! LOL!!!
