Sad and hurting

Ok as you all know I have given birth to my lil angel. Now the whole time that I was pregnant I was 1,000% sure that I was going to breast feed. I never breast fed before so this was going to be a new experience for me butI knew this was something that I turly wanted to do. Well she is here and I don' t know about it anymore. It does not seem to me that I'm doing it correctly and she is not getting enough food so therefore I go back to the bottle. Im scared that she is not latched on correctly and is not getting the milk that she needs. They showed me how to breadfeed while I was in the hospital but I really didnt learn much in the lil 30 minute teaching that they gave. I REALLY don't want to give up but I want to make sure that she is eating.... My chest are swollen and they hurt like hell....What do I do??

Talk to your peditrician and the lactation consultation to assist with the breastfeeding. My daughter is 11 months and I'm still breastfeeding. I really enjoy it. You just have to get through the first 2 weeks.

Hey! I had a similar issue when I 1st started bf my baby. Don't give up. You can do it. You just have to be patient with yourself. If your engorged then you need to pump or it will be too painful for you to get the baby to your breast. I purchased a pump and bottle fed my baby until we could get it together. I made a BIG mistake... I gave my baby the bottle, so she has nipple confusion. If at all possible allow someone else to bottle feed your baby after you try to put your babe to the breast. You will eventually get it. Just be patient.

im a postpartum nurse... you need a breastpump, you pump or breast feed every 2-3 hours i know alot and if your boobs are getting engorged with milk you can let it down by putting warm washcloths on your boobs 10 mins prior to breastfeeding it opens up the mlk ducts and helps the milk flow out better... never put ice that drys up the milk.. also you need to feed the baby 15 on each breast every 2-3 hours , you know your baby is getting enough by the number of wet diapers you see... you should see 5,6,7, 8 wet diapers a day that tells you the baby is getting enough, if you cant give the baby enough by breast feeding then you need a breast pump asap at least if you give up breastfeeding you can at least pump your milk anf give you breast milk through the bottle

honey it always seems really hard to do and I do it myself and sometimes I feel like I am failing with it all and then all is well again when my baby boy is sleeping and content.......I had gotten a baby scale from babies-r-us they cost 60.00 dollars but they are worth it because i weigh my little man before he eats and then again after he eats and that tells me what he has gotten to eat during that feeding and trust me about the latching issue you will know when they are latched sometimes when they are newborns they take time getting adapted to the breast but before you know it they are good to go and gaining weight like there is no tomorrow look at it this way hun the breastmilk is the best for them all the way through breastmilk doesn't stain and it doesn't stink, and your little girl will be able to do better when she comes around any sort of sickness........my little man that is now 16 months old he was breastfed and heck he didn't get sick up until he wasn't breastfed anymore no ear infections nothing and the bond was the best thing of all between him and I he loved his momma and I hated to give the breastfeeding up when I had too because he was a mommies boy and now that i don't breastfeed him he is now a daddies boy boohoo lol......but I love him though so what I am saying hun is no matter how hard it will seem to be sometimes trust me it will get easier as you go........just give it time and get a breast pump to help with the soreness of the breasts I have a medlea and it is the best pump you can buy I love it i have boughten other brand name pumps and no good get a medlea and you'll be in heaven and get that scale to boost your confidnece with what she is really getting from you it makes me feel a whole lot better because now if I can't see what she is eatting I can at least tell what he has ate based on his weight it is what the hospitals do too to be able to tell what the baby has gotten to eat from a breastfed mother and now thats what I do here at home too.....and it helps me out a lot

Also- babies usually get enough milk, it's just so foreign to us that we make MILK that we think there's no way this is going to work. I'm 8 months in and my guy prefers milk "from the source" not eating as much at his sitter's. So all the extra milk is frozen and shipped to Ohio, where it's processed and given to preemies. And this from a mama who STILL can't believe she makes milk. Keep at it, honey. It's not what you want to hear, but you just need to breathe, relax, and let it FLOW. Imagery often helps: imagine your big, beautiful heart, full of light that is your love for your baby girl. Your heart is so full, it feels like it's bursting. White, bursting light. Light beaming out of your heart, filling your chest, filling your breasts, with love. The kind of "I will do anything for you" kind of love. Filling your chest so much there's no where it can go now. You're SSSOOOO full. Imagine that white light of love FLOWING out through your breasts into that tiny smiling mouth. Her mouth attached to your heart through your chest. Still attached to you, even though she's born. That love flowing into her smile, into her heart. Her heart filling with that white mama love! Man... now you've got ME making some milk here! Better go pump! MUCH love, mama! Jen

It is hard the first time around, its easy to just want to give up but if you stick to breastfeeding it will be rewarding for you and gabby. If you have a WIC program in your area you should give them a call cuz the have lactation consultant that can come by and help you. And if you do decide to bottle feed remember that you can always pump your milk and give it to your baby, that way she is still getting all her nutrients from you. Good Luck

As a case worker, I'm sure you've heard all the benefits of BFing, which you seem to acknowledge in your want to BF your gorgeous angel. It can be frustrating. But just like a new job, every day it gets easier! Then, one day, you look back and it's all "old hat." You can call me immediately. I would love to talk to you! You can reach me at 608-334-5538 during the day and at home in the evening at 608-241-9106. If you can't call long distance, PLEASE call someone in Le Leche League. I don't know where you are, but us BFers are EVERYWHERE! http://www.llli.org/WebUS.html will get you to the page you need: select a state and go from there. It's 100% free and you can call these ladies 24 hours a day! My leader has gone to mama's houses to help them out and you may even get one that's a lactation consultant! PLEASE know that it gets SO much easier, so quickly. My beginning was sore, too. Then babe tends to stay on longer because you're not letting down milk when you're anxious! My #1 advice, besides calling for help, is to lay down wherever you feel safe (I did on my bed, but you can do it on the bedroom floor if you don't like her in bed with you) and latch her on while you're laying down. This often takes the pressure off of holding her, is more relaxed, she can stay alseep (BIG benefit to latching on while they're asleep is they don't GREEDILY take in the nipple, just kind of lazy suck at you!). It really is worth it. Really. PLEASE ask for help!!! I'm turning my cell on now! By the way, my name is Jen!

well first you gotta give it a chance..... her tummy is smaller than a golf ball..., but the worse thing you can do is get frustrated ... because she will too...go on the La Leche league site read some tips .. good luck

Do you have a breastfeeding clinic close by? Try calling your doctor's office and ask where you can go for help. It is available in most regions. The best support on the site for help is the breastfeeding forum. I BF for six months by pumping and bottle feeding (my son could not latch). BF is not easy at first, and you really do need to seek support and help for it to work. Don't be too hard on yourself if it just will not work for you, but if you want to really try to make BF work, don't be afraid to seek out help at a local clinic. Good luck!

It's rough breastfeeding at first...one b/c it hurts really bad...but if you just stick thru it, I promise it gets better...you know she is latched on b/c the nipple is in her mouth...If you milk has come in already then you will get a tingle in your breast when the milk is coming out...it takes a few days for the milk to fully come in, so don't be discourage if you have to supplement the bottle for a few days...just keep practicing...it's a very rewarding experience. I did it w/both of my children and I plan to do it w/this one...she will usually spend about 20min on each breast...so it's not a quick thing...it just takes patience...you know she is getting enough food as well b/c there will be dirty diapers...I would also look on line for breastfeeding tips...just don't give up!
