19-4-2008 - Being a Mom so far

Hi ladies! It is been 5 weeks now since I gave birth to a beautiful 7lbs 6oz little girl. She was a wonderful baby from the start. She sleeps most of the time and really only cries when she is hungry. We had a little problem with her billi levels/jaundice upon leaving the hospital. She had to be pricked on her heal like 3 times in 3 days to check her levels. She was on a bili blanket at home for 2 days but she didn't seem to mind too much-she just looked like a "glow-worm"!

She lost a lot of weight coming home from the hospital. She got down to 6lbs 9oz. My milk hadn't come in yet but by the forth day it came in and she gained 5oz that day! She has been weighed weekly since at our local hospital where they are kind enough to have a class about newborns and have a baby scale handy. She gained a total 12oz last week. As of weds she weighs 8lbs 13oz.

Being a mom so far has been rather a shock to my system but am managing fairly well. I love Layla and love being a mommy but I just get so tired sometimes esp at 2am feedings! I think she is the biggest and most important thing I have done so far. My husband is the best father in the world and a wonderful husband who lets me sleep all through the night once a week!
