My mood while writing this blog: Pissed off!!

So just got home from Kylen's check up, and we decided to try a new peditrician since our previous one was a complete moron. Anyways, Craig finds the new doc and sets up the appt. Up until now, she has only has her Hepatitis B at the hospital. (I consented to this shot because of being in health care I could have been exposed to it) I explained to Craig that I would like to do research and ultimently space out her vaccines, and one at a time so that if a reaction (God forbid) occurred we would be able to pin point which one caused the reaction. First of all, let me say I am not a big fan of vaccines, but I try to be reasonable and keep my daughters best interest at heart. Soooo today, I show up at the Dr's office and he calls me asking if I was there and I told him yes, he said ok I'm right around the corner I'll meet you there. This was news to me, he never came to any ped appts except when she was sick. So he gets there, and proceeds to tell me that this is the ped that our preggo friend has decided on. Knowing her stand on vaccines, I knew exactly what was going on. I get in there and the nurse basically scoffs at me when I said she is not up to date on her vaccines. Whatever, bitter old lady, I got over it. Then doc comes in and I ask a million questions regarding vaccines, his opinion on them, and reiterated the research I have done and info from books I have read... so on and so forth. He tells me he understands my concerns, and that he is more than happy to space them out, not give her combo vaccines and leave out a few. So doc says, these are the vaccines I suggest she recieves today, I'll be back in a minute and we can discuss your decision. He hands me a piece of paper that says the DTaP-Hep B-Ipv combo, PCV, and Hib. I look at Craig like WTF, why would he suggest exactly what I told him I didn't wanna do! I tell Craig I don't want her having all of these today. Not two mins later the nurse comes in and has three syringes in her hand and hands the sign off paperwork to Craig, he steps in front of me while I'm trying to read them and signs his name. The nurse pops the lid on the syringe and plops in all three shots before I could say a damn thing!!! I'm so upset, I don't ask that he sees eye to eye with me on vaccines but I am so mad that he totally underminded and decited me. Then we got into a huge arrgument on the phone on my way home, he basically called me stupid and ignorant for doing what I feel is in the best intrest for our child. I told him we are a team, we make decisions about our daughter's life, health- whatever, together! You don't get to disregard my feelings and opinions because one doctor believes what you do. He told me that I think I'm a "know it all" and that I think I know better than the Dr, which makes me an idiot. I am a very smart person, but I have always questioned authority! Which I do not consider a bad thing, I do not do what anyone says to do because it has been done like that for ever, I ask why do we do that? I probably research a little too much! LOL! Anyways, I am just so mad that he acted like he cared about my opinion and in the end it didn't even matter. And I know that he picked that doc cause he knew I would find a pedi that shares MY opinion, and I know he showed up today to do exactly what he did... damn he makes me feel like nothing I say or feel matters! Sorry about the novel, I had to vent! I feel a little better... he will be home in about 30 mins and I know he's going to ask "What's for dinner, I'm starving" (His usual hello) and to which my response will be "I really don't give two flying sh*ts what you eat for dinner, all I know is I'm not making it!!" Ugggghhhh!!! Thanks for letting me vent ladies :)

just came across your blog and i see we are very much alike - i'm always second guessing the peds and it annoys my hubby so much. he calls me "webMD" as I am a biology student and am used to doing my research. Too many people put all their faith into a doctor, who has their own opinions and make mistakes like everyone else! I tend to have issues with the use of antibiotics and how freely they hand them out...no wonder we are facing the issues we are today with superflus and anti-biotic resistant bacterias. People need to realize that doctors are not All-knowing. I got in it with mine at my daughters 2 month visit about giving vitamin D supplement because she is breastfed. Thats just silly. In 10 years they will find that giving all these vitamins was somehow bad. Just because something is the "current" recommendation doesn't make it right. She was irritated at me and probably thought i was a bad mom but i dont care what she thinks! Sorry I had to vent - i feel for you!

Wow!!! You were ambushed. That is so wrong. He should at least try to understand your concerns and perhaps do some research himself. Hang in there. You have every right to be concerned.

I'm sorry to hear it. I understand why you are upset. I'm pretty sure I would have freaked out as well.
