06-5-2009 - Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD)

My mood while writing this blog: worried

Has anyone else experienced this or your baby dignosed with this please give me some info or something to make me feel better

So we took Paige to the Dr today, she has been having some problems. like a week after being home she was laying down and all of a sudden started gasping for air like she was choking we didnt kno what to do or what it was. we call the drs they said if she is eating and sleeping fine and normal temp just keep an eye on it.

So a few weeks later she did it again and Im just getting more worried and scared. Finally last saturday she did it to my mom and she freaked out! Its normally after feedings like 30mins to 1hr after. or if she falls asleep after eating its when she wakes up. she spits up which looks like phum but in like 5 to 10 mins is fine. then this morning she made a weird noise at 550am and i ran to her crib to find her shaking her head back and forth and had formula coming out her nose and foaming at mouth with the phum looking stuff just gasping for air.

I took the nose picker i never used because it was too big and used it in her mouth(dr told me to do that) then 10mins later she was ok again.. I knew she was hungry but scared to feed her, she ate only 1.5 ozs then i changed her diaper to noticed she was spitting up through her nose and coming out mouth, i didnt worry that she didnt have diaper on i was so concerned about her breathing finally she was better again..

She had her appt at 930am and he said she has Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) which can be cause from because is gulps her food down so quickly and like too eat this can happen, or spitting up more, he told us (last saturday) to try slowing her down, which is hard she only takes the fast flow nipples, and try burping her more, well none of that is working, she has done it twice to me today and it scares me every time

He said the best way to help it is introducing Rice cereal into formula and let her sleep on stomach(well ur watching her that is) That way to sleep is bad because of SIDS which normally happens between 2-6months and this could be one example of sids her Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) because of her not being able to breathe.

Any ways we are starting the rice cereal tomorrow, just to add small amount it will help keep her full longer. she is healthy and at 7wks is 10 lbs 13 ozs dont kno length at this point..............2 weeks ago she was 10.6lbs and 21.5 inches long
