| 23-7-2009 - And the debate begins... | My mood while writing this blog:determined |
As little girls, we all played house and knew what we were naming our future kids. Then we get married and our husbands fight us tooth and nail every single step of the way. In the end, finally agreeing on one name, one of which someone didn't agree on but gave in to anyway.
As that little girl, my son was always DOMINICK or DAMIEN. (ya, I was a big fan of the Omen, lol) My daughter was always CODA or KAYLA. I tried those out on my hubby with the first baby and he laughed himself right out of the room.
ASHLEY took almost 9 months to come up with. I was determined to NOT name my daughter after any girl my dh dated, liked or even knew for that matter.(hey, I was 18 and a typical teenager.) I had never known an Ashley, so it was perfect! Little did I know it was the most common name then and for many, many years to come. She hates it and I resent I picked it. It fits her though, she is VERY outgoing, outspoken and stands out no matter how many Ash's there are in the room, lol. A son would have been Cody.
ALISON picked her own name I think, lol. It started out that Ashley's favorite movie was "Alice in Wonderland." She watched it constantly, except she always called it "Alison Wonderland." thinking that was the girls whole name. Then I noticed the shortcut I always took out of our subdivision was "Alison Dr." Gin Blossoms came out with a song called "Alison Road." The newscaster on our local news was a very pretty, soft spoken woman, named Alison. I was looking at Lauren or Courtney for names, but the baby was pretty adamant on making things really obvious. A son would have been Michael.
ANGELINA GRACE respectfully received her name because she truly is our Angel. We had given up hope on any more babies and were finally coping with the ones we lost and accepting the fact that we were done. When we least expected it, she was conceived and born healthy! Her name means Little Angel in Italian. Dad always referred to her as his Angel through out the whole pregnancy. I had a list of names I liked, but he chose Angelina in the delivery room. She has a light that emanates from her wherever she goes. She brightens everything:-)
ARIANNA was a challenge. I was dead set on it,period. It went with Angelina, they were both different, it worked. Nope....dh disagreed completely. He said it was weird, no one would remember it let alone pronounce it. He wanted AMBER. My rebuttle was that was just as common if not more so than ASHLEY!!! A very pretty name, but too common for what I was going for. We couldn't agree, so for the whole pregnancy whenever anyone asked the babies name, my response always was "I don't have one." On the way to the hospital, dh said we HAD to come up with a name, she was going to be born in a few hours. I just shrugged my shoulders. Finally he turned and said...."ARIANNA it is then?" Ahahahahahahaha, I got it:-)
Unfortunately I made a promise that day I should have never made. I was so overjoyed in him agreeing with her name, that I said, with a grin, OK, then we can name the next one Amber. Like I was really thinking about the next one, lol. I had to deliver this one still. Well it came back to bite me in the ass, like that rumplestiltskin story where he comes back for the newborn years later. The first thing dh said when I told him I was pregnant was ..."Amber is it?"
I am 99% sure this is a girl, so is he. I have agreed the last 2 pregnancies to name a son after him, even though I like the name Jack or Joseph, after my grandfather. I want to name her ANNALISE. My other choices are: AMARYNTH, AISLINN, AMARISSA, AVELINE. I am even ALL for AMBERLYN. He won't have it. So, I guess in regards to a name, this is another "I don't have one" pregnancy.....
