| 17-9-2009 - Grrr...this hurts | My mood while writing this blog:irritated |
So....I spent half the night in the ER. I have had pains on and off since Sunday evening. Started as a sharp pain on my left side at 3am, the radiated around to my lower back, left side. I immediately thought the cyst on my left ovary was the culprit. Luckily I had a scheduled Doc. appt Monday. He said it wasn't the cyst, to cause back pain, and that it was probably just a muscle sprain, common in pregnancy. My uterus WAS measuring larger than average for my gestational age. OK, cool I thought. He prescribed me some muscle relaxers if I needed them, which I had no intention on taking. Tylenol was working ok.
The back pain gradually subsided through out the day and the cramping became more general across the whole front. Im thinking, bladder infection, constipation?? So I start drinking like a fish, cranberry juice and all, took some stool softeners, increased fiber. No problems in the digestive area, all is working regularly. Then Tuesday night, this weird pressure feeling starts...
By Wednesday, the pressure is REALLY uncomfortable, but not an alarming situation. I spent the day sitting at my computer trying to fix it, so I didnt do anything strenuous or stressful. BY wednesday evening I felt like I wished I could crawl under a rock and die.
Let me describe what this pressure is...I have NEVER experienced it before in all my pregnancies. I spent hours looking it up, and it appears it is common, with the more kids you have. Huh, new one on me!....OK, have you ever seen ace ventura, pet detective? Either the 1st or 2nd movie, he is inside some hippo or rhino costume and is trying to stretch his way out, its funny yet really gross how they play it out. That is how the pressure feels on me, LOL! I thought maybe my cervix was dilating? The pain got so bad I literally felt like I had to "push." The cramping became so bad across the front, I couldnt take it, and rather than wait until it was too late or I started bleeding, we went to the ER.
I gave a urine sample that was light colored yellow. Looked completely normal, sorry if TMI. The lab report said it had ALOT of blood in it, and bacteria. My blood work came confirming some sort of infection. Then they came in to do an ultrasound....
I have read this on the boards on this forum. Women getting u'/ at the er, and they are PISSED!!!! I thought they just got stuck with really rude or insensitive techs. I guess it is standard protocol. The tech came in and kicked my husband out of the room!! Said he couldnt be in there. Hes like, "UH, 5th kid, I think I've seen it all." She just said "sorry" and shut the door. Then she turns the machine and screen completely away from me so I can't see ANYTHING. Half way through I asked her, "Can you atleast tell me if there is still a heartbeat???" She just shook her head and said she can't say anything. When shes done she tells me hope I get to feeling better. I bit my tongue, I know it is her job, but boy did I have a mouthfull, lol.
ER doc used to be in OB, so that was cool. She came in and concluded the cyst must have ruptured, that was the main cause of the pain, but they could not see much of the ovary because the baby was blocking it. They concluded I also have a bladder infection. They loaded m up with fluids and antibiotics via IV.The baby has a strong heartbeat and looks healthy, and is measuring 17weeks 2 days. So 4 days farther along then my gestational age. What a relief.
I am on antibiotics and pyridium, the fun stuff that turns your pee orange, lol. She wouldnt prescribe any pain meds because it DOES cross the placenta and she felt with my past history of loss, tylenol would be safer. No problem there!
The cramping has gone away for the most part, but the pressure still remains. Hopefully it goes away too because it is REALLY annoying. I am soooo hoping it isnt one of those "things" I just have to deal with in pregnancy....
