02-7-2008 - Baby Food Recipes, Part 1 OkMy mood while writing this blog:
Ok

*All recipes below can be frozen for up to three months. These are ones we've tried and liked! They're from "Top 100 baby Purees."

**NOTE: I just use a regular blender or food processor to puree the food. I know they sell special ones for making baby food, but I'm not sure how they differ from a good old food processor - it worked fine for us!

Apple and Pear with Cinnamon

- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored and chopped

- 2 medium pears, peeled, cored and chopped

- 1/4 cup water

- Big pinch of ground cinnamon

Put all fruit in saucepan with water and cinnamon; Cover and cook over low-medium heat about 10 minutes or until tender, then puree fruit.

*******************************************

Butternut Squash (Ben's Fave)

- 1 medium butternut squash, peeled, seeded and chopped

- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Steam or boil squash about 12 minutes or until tender, then puree with butter.

*******************************************

Trio of Root Vegetables

- 1 medium sweet potato, peeled and chopped

- 2 medium carrots, peeled and chopped

- 1 medium parsnip, peeled and chopped

Steam veggies for 20 minutes, or boil with just enough water to cover them in a covered saucepan for 20 minutes. Drain and then puree using a little cooking liquid.

******************************************

This one can't be frozen but it doesn't require any cooking at all, and avocados have tons of nutrients and good fat:

- Cut a ripe avocado in half, remove the pit, scoop out the flesh, and mash it up. For a smoother consistency, add some of your baby's usual milk

I have the same question as emy. What do you use to puree the foods?

Lisa, is this from the babyfood cookbook? I have been boring with my homemade foods...just steaming things & pureeing them. I am going to make a hummus this week. I think I need to spice things up a bit. These recipes look great!

What do you use to puree? I really want to make my own food. Will a regular blender with a puree option work?
