| 02-4-2008 - To work or not to work | My mood while writing this blog:frustrated |
Oooh I like that the blogs are sort of separated now!
Ok, anyway, so a few weeks ago I was ragging about my boss's dog, who seems to be completely obsessed with being under my feet since I got pregnant. Well, a couple weeks ago she asked me NOT to tell her dog to go lie down when she's in my way anymore, to let her do it. Keep in mind, I do not yell at the dog, touch the dog, or in any way, shape or form abuse the dog. So that's fine, don't want me to tell the dog to lie down, then I won't.
I was putting my boss to bed (I'm a caregiver for a disabled woman - my "boss" is my client), and the dog - a German Shepherd cross (not sure of the other breed) curled up around my ankles. I didn't notice her as I was busy with my client's night-time exercises and stuff. I went to walk to the other side of the bed and tripped over the dog. I didn't fall, but I pulled my hip and caused some damage.
So I've been going to a chiropractor since then to adjust it - I guess the SI joint (?) is inflammed and it's really not getting any better because of the nature of my job. There's a lot of bending and shifting and just being in awkward positions. So last time I saw him he said he'd prefer I was off work because working is aggravating the condition and keeping me from getting better. I told him it's not an option because I'm going on mat leave as of June 1 and she hasn't been able to fill that yet. If she had then I'd consider it, since I'd still get paid through worker's comp. He understood and said we'd re-examine the issue next week because this is my short week and, if being off work will help, we'll see the benefits this week. I saw him again this morning - mid-week - and of course he asked how I'm doing, and I realized that being at work REALLY is bad for my back. Within an hour of being there this morning I was limping. So of course, chiropractor just kinda shook his head and asked if I am sure I want to work through it. Want to? No. But I feel obligated to. Her casual worker is essentially useless and I don't want to screw her other worker into working ridiculous hours either.
I dunno. It's a snafu if I ever did hear one.
