My mood while writing this blog: Ok |
I have been searching for some other EC moms but have not been able to find any on this site or others. I can find groups but none are active. So I figure I will just blog and maybe someone who is also doing it will find ME!
I remember hearing about infant potty training when my son was about 3 and thinking it was total BS! I thought the moms who did it had way too much time on their hands and wondered how they ever left the house. When I was pregnant with Kara I met some moms in my sons unschool group whose kids were diaper free and I still thought.. NO WAY does this work. They gave me some books on it, they are still in my car unread..haha But what got me started was my insistance on being skin to skin with Kara. Through being skin to skin diaper free I was able to see that there WAS a pattern in her peeing and pooping, and she DID know she was going! How could I ignore that!!
So we are getting close to our 3rd month of being part time diaper free. Kara has been disperless most of her awake time at home since birth. The first few weeks I just keep a cloth diaper under her. By doing that I was able to really get to know her elimination schedule and lable to her what was happening as she peed "go potty". I started to announce it outloud to my husband when I thought she was going to go and with in a few seconds she would! At around age 5-6 weeks I started to take her to the bathroom everytime she woke up, when she fussed during nursing and when we got out of the car and when she cued (squired/fussed and arched her back). I would hold her over the sink (easier on my back) and say "go potty" and with in a few seconds she would go!! Now at 12 weeks we are having great sucsess. I can take her to the bathroom before she cues, like before a nap, and she will go when she hears my "go potty" cue and can have a diaper free nap. Just in the past two weeks I am getting comfortable Peeing her at my familes house when we visit. They think I am nuts but are amazed that even when wearing a cloth diaper she stays dry and pees in the bathroom sink!
We havent gone diaper free at night yet but I am really thinking I should. Thats my reason for wanting to talk to some other moms who have done this.. get some info on night time EC.
So if you EC or are interested in EC let me know!!

Tuesday, 7 Oct Thanks for letting me know about this additional information. I have a question though? Will she pee without the cue? What if you aren't around her all day, and she really needs to pee. Will she just not do it until you come to her and say "go potty'?
