06-5-2011 - illness

My mood while writing this blog:
tired

well, girls. After recovering from my chest infection ryan is now ill. He started being sick a week ago and just got worse. After a couple of days with diahorrea and sickness i took him to see a doctor. Turns out he has a tummy bug. The doctor said just let it pass on its own and makesure he drinks plenty of fluids. Well, the next day he was worse so i took him back to be checked over and again the doctor said the same to me. I just feel so helpless because he feels so ill and every time he eats he brings it back up. He cant keep any food down. I was told to just give him bland foods like dry toast etc but ive tried that and he wont eat it. All his eaten for the past couple of days is dry biscuits and rice cakes. His even off his milk. Im worried is going to lose weight but the doctor said foods not important, babies can go a week without food and as long as his drinking it dont matter. So why am i so worried and thinking his starving. Its hard to see him ill, he dont want to play or do anything he just sits there crying wanting to be picked up. He so clingy to me, the only thing that keeps him happy is sitting on my lap or me carrying him around. I wish i could take his virus away. This has been going on for a week now. Any tips on what i can give him to eat that wont make him sick would be great.

Hi, so sorry your little one is ill and when your not feeling great yourself too its even harder. Aimee was ill for a couple of weeks when she was younger At the time she was only just really starting puree food so i was really worried as her milk kept coming back up and that was her only source of food. She took plain boiled water and a bit of juice but not much else. You could try a bit of banana or a youghurt as they are smooth and cold not likely to irritate but really if they are sick you need to starve the body so the bugs have nothing to feed off. I think 48 hours on fluids only is advisable. When aimee was ill recently she didnt eat at all for about 10 days ( she was in hospital though so i didnt have to worry so much as nurses were there to keep an eye on her) she lost so much weight her clothes were hanging off her waist but she just wasnt interested. I know its hard and we mums worry but as long as fluids are going in thats all we can do. Aimes fine now by the way and put all her weight back on in about 3 weeks as she ate for england once she was better x

my little one had that last fall. i know how you feel. in canada, we have pedilyte (wrong spelling probably) ..its a liquid you get at the pharmacy..it has all the eletrolytes to keep a baby hydronated..you give little doses..the pharmacist can explain more if you have something like that there. our little one had to be on it for almost a week..till he got the proper medicine...he did lose a pound but he gained it back after...he needs antibiotics to cure it...id see another doctor to see about getting the antibiotic that he needs...(biggg hugggs) oh and of course loves of hugs...and kisses from you :)

Tor is sick, too. He hasn't really been eating for the past two weeks and he's gotten really skinny. But... it'll eventually work itself out, I'm sure.
